Chapter 15 - Insult

After returning from taking Sammy to school, Viona returned home because she got a call from Joe saying he would be working at home.

"Follow me," said Joy and Viona immediately nodded. They walked to the back garden and sat on the long chairs.

"How was your first day working here," Joe asked Fiona.

"Sammy is a good and obedient child. He makes me happy. I didn't think that a child as small as Sammy could do small things like bathe and prepare his needs independently. I don't feel like I'm his nanny but instead, I'm just like his friend."

Viona explained calmly and all this was expressed through the smile on her face. Joe was certainly very happy to hear that.

"Sammy didn't do all that in a short time," Joe said, sounding sad.

"Hmm, yeah. I understand," Viona responded. There was not much she could say when the sad story was told to her.

But Joe's next response made Viona raise an eyebrow, "You understand? Great. Even now, I still can't believe that my child will grow up alone without his mother,"

"I'm sorry, Mr. Joe. I didn't mean to make you sad."

"But I understand that Sammy's efforts to be independent at such a small age are not easy. Because I also experienced a process like that."

Now Joe raised an eyebrow, "I'm sorry, I didn't know your mother…"

Viona smiled, "That's not what I meant. My mother is alive and well. So did my father. But they live far away in another area."

Joe smiled sheepishly, "Oh my, I guess…"

"What I mean by learning to be independent from a young age like Sammy is that when I was his age I was required to be independent and understand our family situation,"

Viona smiled slightly before taking a deep breath. She didn't want to continue her complicated story with Joe. The woman didn't want to cause trouble by telling her true identity.

"Okay, sir. Let's just continue with work. Talking about Sammy on topics like that makes me sad and the atmosphere here feels strange, at least your expression makes me understand Sammy's sadness,"

Joe smiled while nodding briefly, "OK, let's discuss your job,"

The two of them continued to talk about the work Viona would do for Joe while they worked at home. They walked towards Joe's study.

Initially, Joe's reason for doing work at home was as he had told Ben, but apart from that he wanted to see Viona's performance as Sammy's nanny at home via CCTV which he monitored from his work room.

The two of them started working, Viona was assigned to check several files that Joy would study after a virtual meeting with an important client later.

However, Viona couldn't fully focus on the report sheets in her hands because she was stunned to see Joe who was very calm and professional while working.

'His attitude immediately changed when he entered work mode. There is no silliness like before. Then… Why does he look even more handsome?' she muttered to herself.

Viona's thoughts were interrupted when someone opened the door without knocking first.

"Joe, which Bitch did you bring into this house?!"

The unpleasant exclamation made both of them turn around. Joe could see an elderly woman standing in front of the door to his study with an angry face.

She is Joy's biological mother, Mrs. Kate.

"Please watch your tongue, Mom!" Joe warned sternly.

'Oh my… What's going on?' Viona was immediately confused, but could only mutter to herself. However, Mrs. Kate's next sentence made Viona unable to hold back her annoyance.

"Is this what you mean by being so busy working that you don't want to come to your parent's house?"

"I thought you were busy with the company and Sammy, but it turns out you're busy with the bitch you picked up on the street. Tch!" Mrs. Kate said rudely and left Joe and Viona there.

'I'm a Bitch picked up from the street? Seriously!' Viona muttered angrily as she squeezed the training pants she was wearing. The woman with the ponytail got up, making Joe look up.

"Sorry, sir. I need a job, but I don't want to be humiliated like this. I will look for another job that still appreciates me!"

Viona's words suddenly made Joy gasp.

"You can't just leave, you've already signed the contract on a stamp!" Joe doesn't want to lose.

Viona showed a crooked smile that she rarely showed to other people, "That's a fake signature," she said then walked back out of Joe's office.

The main door of the big house is now Viona's main goal. She should leave the house. As difficult as it is to find a good job, she shouldn't get a job than to have her self-esteem trampled like that.

Once again, for anything on this earth, she could destroy the person who hurt her. But unfortunately, that's not what Viona's parents taught her.

At least she wouldn't meet Joe, who she didn't realize had attracted her attention. The only reason she was sad right now was Sammy.

Right in front of the door, Viona was stopped by Ben who seemed to be in a hurry. Ben went home after getting news that his mother was coming to their house.

Ben had already guessed what would happen when his mother found Viona at their house. But he didn't expect the impact of his mother's arrival to have already occurred.

"Viona, where are you going? Why don't you just take a car if you want to pick Sammy up at school?" Ben asked, surprised to see Viona walking alone out of Joe's house.

"I want to go home, Mr. Ben," Viona answered while showing a sad smile.

"Go home? Why? You are sick? Come on, I'll take you to the hospital now." Ben offers to help out of concern.

Viona shook her head, "I'm not sick. I want to go home because I no longer work here. I resign, Mr. Ben. So, see you and please convey my apologies to Sammy."

After saying goodbye, Viona started to walk but Ben pulled her hand back, "What happened?"

Viona was silent for a moment. Just as she wanted to answer, Joe's cold voice came from the front door.

"Let her go," said Joe as he approached the two.

"But–," Ben still wanted to ask but Joe's response became colder as he stared at Viona.

"We don't need people who are inconsistent in their work. If she just gave up with a small bluff, then we don't need someone like that," said Joe.

Joe was disappointed with Viona's attitude of giving up just because of what Mrs. Kate said.

He hoped that Viona would survive and fight back. Joe wanted Viona to stay there to accompany Sammy, but the woman gave up easily.

"I do need work and money, but it feels like it's too cheap to pay with my pride being stepped on,"

"Excuse me, Mr. Ben."

Viona answered coldly while looking at Joe then said goodbye to Ben without looking back at the two of them.

Instead of stopping Viona's steps, Joe also turned back into his house in annoyance. Ben also followed to ask for an explanation.

Viona smiled sadly, "It's okay, Viona. You have to get used to the attitude of rich people who don't care about other people's dignity," she muttered as she left Joe Clayton's palace-like house.

"Hurry up and finish your food, darling. Grandma has cooked your favorite food," Madam… persuaded Sammy. The woman was confused when she saw her grandson's behavior, who was just silent.

When he came home from school, Sammy looked gloomy. That's because Viona didn't pick him up as promised by his nanny. Sammy became even sadder after hearing from the driver that Viona had left and no longer worked at Joe's house.

Plus, when he came home, he didn't find Viona at home, but his grandmother, who he didn't want to meet.

"Sammy, why are you sad like this? Aren't you happy to see your grandma coming?" Mrs. Kate asked again. But after not getting an answer from her grandson, she spoke again.

"Are you satisfied?" The mother's question made Joe and Ben turn around. Not to their mother, but to Sammy who got up and left there.

"Have you seen, Joe?" Mrs. Kate asked again.

"What am I doing?" Joe answered coldly.

"You don't realize your mistake? It's because of that wild woman, right? My grandson is acting strange because of that woman. Just looking at her once, I knew she wasn't a good woman. You have to be careful of women like her!" Mrs. Kate grumbled.

"Since when have you cared about me, about Sammy?" Joe answered coldly.

"Is that how you talk to your mother? Why are you so stubborn, Joe? I just want my children and grandson to be happy." Mrs. Kate didn't accept Joe's attitude.

Not wanting to reply anymore, Joe decided to leave the dining table. Mrs. Kate continued to nag loudly.

"What happiness, Mom? From the start, there was no happiness in this house and it was you and Dad's selfishness that destroyed our family." This time Ben took the vote.

"If you and Dad hadn't disrupted Joe and Diane's marriage from the start, then Sammy would never have been whining for affection from the wild woman you just mentioned," he continued and then followed Joe who was heading towards Sammy's room.
