Barbara sneaked into Aurora's room, moving quietly to the bed. She found Aurora sleeping fitfully, her face pale and her brows furrowed as if in pain.
Barbara's attention was drawn to a jewellery box on the dressing table. She walked over and picked up a bracelet, the tiny jewels sparkling faintly. It reminded her of a memory at Mermaid Lake, a scene to forget.
"You? What are you doing here?" Aurora's faint voice echoed from behind.
Barbara turned to see Aurora's face contorted with horror, her eyes pleading for Barbara to stay away. She took a seat near the bed. "I wanted to check on you. How are you? I heard you got poisoned. Are you well?" she asked with feigned concern.
"You did it, didn't you?" Aurora's eyes were swollen with tears.
"What do you think?" Barbara replied, smirking. "I might have done more than this. Just let your head think for a while," she said.
