Barbara opened her eyes slowly, her vision blurry at first as she tried to make sense of her surroundings. She felt a shiver run through her entire body, the cold seeping into her bones. As her eyes adjusted, she realized she was lying on a set of wooden planks by the edge of a lake. Her clothes were wet and clinging to her, and she could feel the coldness of the water beneath her.
She frowned as she looked around. The fog enveloping the lake made the scene eerily reminiscent of the lake during winter when it was frozen solid and the cold was biting. Barbara stood up, her legs trembling from both the cold and fear. She looked around, trying to find Kristie, but her calls were swallowed by the fog and met with silence.
