I'd never seen the like of it- my heart began to beat quickly.
'Cazz, what is it? What's happening?'
'I don't know. His mind…' But I was speaking of alliances and the pleasure of man, how our friends were their friends, and so on and so forth. 'Keep your eye on the Governor. I don't have him yet.'
Since I held the others easily, I turned my focus on them, but a bead of sweat trickled down my spine.
What was different about this man that made him difficult to compel?
And was it going to thwart our plan?
No. I would not allow it.
Focusing on the others as I droned on about how they could go about selecting the women they wanted and would be accommodated, I planted ideas in each of the men's heads, pointing them to the females I believed were best suited to their particular tastes- women who wouldn't indulge them, but would keep them bound behind closed doors until we could reach and delve each of them personally.
