I snapped my mouth closed as my very smug mate winked at me, then started to turn away. But I caught her hand and didn't let her do it.
"Maya… Reeca…" I said
quietly, through my teeth. "Would you leave us alone, please?"
'Cazz…' Jesse sighed in my mind.
'Wait until we're alone.'
It was a relief when Maya didn't argue, or try to cut me down, but clucked at the girl and pushed to her feet, groaning about pain in her back, but hobbling as quickly as she could, urging Reeca to join her. I ignored them completely and didn't drop Jesse's gaze.
She stared back at me, her expression dropping out of smug delight, into irritation, then frustration, and finally some unease.
Good. She should be uneasy about this.
When the door closed behind the others, she opened her mouth immediately, but I stepped in, quietly to lower the chance that Maya would eavesdrop.
"You have no clue what you're talking about walking into," I started.
