"You believe my mate is capable of… neutering me? Choose your words very carefully, Cayn," I muttered.
All eyes in the room snapped back and forth between me and the elder wolf, whose stony expression didn't waver, though I caught the tang of fear in his scent.
He swallowed, but he didn't submit, and when he spoke his voice was strong and sure.
"Your previous mates have been little more than vessels at your side."
"Weak and mindless, both of them," I growled. "Jesse's strength is not theory. She has submitted at every turn, and grown my power in leaps and bounds. She is a true Queen."
Cayn nodded. "Certainly that appears to be true for you. But what do we know of her, beyond your infatuation? While I applaud that it seems likely she'll give you offspring, the question in my mind- and I am not alone, Cazz- is whether or not your power grows not to serve us, but to serve her."
