Jack's heart was filled with unease as he faced Blainy's proposition, his voice trembling almost uncontrollably. "But, I'm really scared. What if he kidnaps me? What should I do?" He had intended to say what if he got killed, but the words came out as being kidnapped instead.
"He wants items, not people, certainly not you, so you don't need to worry," Blainy said calmly, looking at Jack, attempting to soothe his fear.
"Can't I just not go?" Jack still hesitated, the memory of Lang Qingyun's gloomy gaze sending shivers down his spine.
"If you don't go? Sure, then you can go sit in the detention center. Jack, you have to understand, currently only I can pull you out of that traffic incident mess. I keep my promises, don't I? You were there for only a few minutes, and you came out just fine, right? Besides, are you a man?" Blainy asked.
"Yes."
"Then go. Take this, it's the list. Don't let anyone know." Blainy handed Jack a piece of paper.
"Okay, I'll go." Jack fell silent for a moment, seeming to gather great resolve. He took the list, glanced at it, then handed it back to Blainy.
"What's this? Are you changing your mind again?" Blainy asked.
"No, as you said, I'm going despite feeling unsafe. I've noted everything down," Jack said.
"You've noted everything down?" Blainy didn't believe him. This list contained hundreds of items, and the names of these paintings were quite complicated. How could Jack possibly remember them?
But Jack immediately recited the names of several paintings, then jumped to list the names of several other paintings, word for word, leaving Blainy dumbfounded.
"Um, boss, how do I go? My car got towed by the police," Jack asked.
"Well, you can take my car. The keys are in the drawer by the living room door. Choose whichever you want to drive," Blainy said generously.
"Really? That's great," Jack said excitedly.
"Jack, are you really a black car driver? Did you go to school?" Blainy asked curiously.
"I did go to school, but I didn't graduate. I dropped out because I failed too many exams and got expelled," Jack said helplessly.
"How did you start driving a black car then?" Blainy became interested in Jack's background.
So, Jack took the keys, and Blainy stopped him, sitting him down in the living room. Through their conversation, Blainy finally got to know Jack's background thoroughly.
Jack, a junior student at Longhai Science and Technology University, was persuaded to drop out because of failing too many exams. But he didn't dare to tell his family, so he used the tuition fees given by his family to buy a van and started his career as a black car driver.
"Longhai Science and Technology University? I know someone in a leadership position there. If you want to go back, maybe I can help you ask," Blainy thought that besides threats, offering incentives was also a good tactic.
"Really?" Jack's eyes lit up with joy when he heard Blainy say this. If he could go back to school, he could finally give his family an explanation.
"Of course, Jack, I, Blainy, keep my word. We've only known each other for two days, have you ever seen me break my promises?" Blainy asked with a smile.
Jack chose Blainy's Mercedes sports car. He had never driven such a good car before, and he was extremely excited.
Watching Jack drive away, Blainy smiled smugly behind the window upstairs. Sometimes, using someone didn't require much cost, but it was crucial to give the other person what they needed the most.
Jack drove the sports car, but he didn't go directly to meet Lang Qingyun because he hadn't received Blainy's call yet. The meeting place was the one Lang Qingyun had set, but Blainy didn't care this time because it wasn't her going.
Jack had intended to take a stroll near the entrance of his university, but before he reached the school gate, he received Blainy's call. The meeting place was Tangzhou City Museum, where Lang Qingyun's unit was located. Jack knew the place, so he turned the car around and went straight to the museum.
The police behind had lost track of him. They didn't expect Jack's driving skills to be so good, and he took a route that usually wasn't congested. This made the police officers behind very frustrated.
By now, it was already evening, and there was no car in front of the museum. Jack parked the car and looked at the tightly closed museum gate, feeling puzzled. Why would Lang Qingyun arrange to meet here?
"Hey, young man, we're closed. Come back for a visit tomorrow," the security guard said.
"Oh, sir, I'm not here to visit. I'm here to see your leader. Is Lang Qingyun here? He asked me to come," Jack said.
The security guard looked at Jack with confusion, but seeing a lit office upstairs, he picked up the phone and made a call. After a while, the security guard nodded, indicating that Jack could go in.
"Alright, go ahead. See that room with the lights on? That's the museum director's office. Don't wander around. Off you go," the security guard politely escorted Jack into the museum director's office.
Jack had never been to a museum before, thinking that the items here were ancient and some even dug up from graves, which felt ominous. But now, he had no choice but to enter this solemn building.
Upon entering the main entrance, there was a security check here. This time they didn't make a call because they had already received orders from Lang Qingyun to let Jack in. One of the security guards even escorted Jack to Lang Qingyun's office on the second floor.
