Cassie quickened her pace, trying to shake off the disturbing thoughts that kept plaguing her. However, the image of the man and woman from the café earlier refused to leave her mind. Every corner she passed felt darker than usual, as if something was lurking within, watching her.
Once home, Cassie headed straight to her room. She shut the door tightly and lay down on her bed, hoping the fear would fade. Yet, the mysterious whisper still echoed in her head.
Just as her eyes began to close, she suddenly heard footsteps outside her room. Cassie held her breath. Could it be Kevin? No, the steps were too heavy and slow, as if someone was trying not to be noticed. Carefully, Cassie got out of bed and reached for her phone. She tried calling Kevin, but there was no answer. The phone rang but went unanswered.
