They only had one chance to escape. Taking a deep breath, Cassie tried to refocus the power she had just felt. Her hands trembled as she reached out towards the door, while the shadows creeping along the walls came closer, their hissing growing more terrifying.
"Come on, Cassie. You can do it," the man urged, his voice tense but full of conviction.
Cassie closed her eyes for a moment, imagining the fire that had just ignited within her. The warmth resurfaced, flowing through her veins like a powerful river. She opened her eyes, a soft glow emanating from her body once again, and the door in front of her began to tremble.
"You did it," the man murmured in awe.
But before the door could open fully, the shadows behind them were nearly touching Cassie's heels. With one swift motion, Cassie channeled all her strength towards the door, forcing it open with a loud bang.
"We have to go, now!" the man shouted.
