GGoing back to Shady Pines for work was difficult for Kai. He hadn't had a depressive episode quite to the current extent for years. So, it was difficult to even get out of bed, let alone mentally prepare himself for work.
The early hours of the shift were stressful considering the various demands from the residents. It seemed regardless of what Kai and the other staff tried to do for them, they were happy.
It also didn't help that one of the sweetest little old men, Jean, was having an episode of altered mental status. Instead of being his usually happy, pleasant self, he was sitting in his room, throwing objects at the walls and crying about wanting to get out and being a prisoner.
"This place is hell," Jean said in a shaky voice as he clutched to the dresser in his room.
"Jean," Kai began. "Take a deep breath and try to call down."
Jean tried and failed to take a deep breath.
