Chapter 1 - Start From Being An Appraiser

In a mysterious city where the sun never rises, the sky is constantly bathed in the soft glow of a luminous moon and myriad twinkling stars. The chilly air wraps around you like a silken shroud, sending shivers down your spine. A small, unassuming building stands at the far western edge of the city. It doesn't draw attention to itself, blending in with the surrounding structures, yet it's strategically positioned to be visible to those strolling along the street.

"Sir, this is a Tier-0 elixir called Lovia Flower. It is characterized by a unique fragrance that can induce infatuation and thoughts of desire in those who inhale it. While not exceedingly rare, Lovia Flower is not commonly found. If you sell it to regular elixir shops, it can be exchanged for 50 mana crystals. However, you can receive 80 mana crystals if sold to Love Love Paradise."

In the assigned guest chamber within the building resided a 16-year-old youth with jet-black hair. A third of his locks were intricately braided, while the remaining strands were arranged in a tousled, spiky manner. One of his distinctive features was a dark, diamond-shaped marking positioned between his eyes.

His attire clearly indicated that he was no ordinary attendant. He sported a white tunic beneath a deep blue shirt adorned with a gold-trimmed, high collar. A crimson sash encircled his waist, securing the shirt in place. Additionally, he draped himself in a sweeping, navy-blue robe.

He sat facing a middle-aged man in a worn-out robe, describing the characteristics of the exquisite purple plant he had just examined.

The middle-aged man frowned as he said hesitately, "Where is Love Love Paradise?"

The young man raised his eyebrows in shock.

Love Love Paradise is a well-known establishment in the city, recognized for its brothel services. It has gained a significant reputation, leading to the expansion of its operations to various cities within the empire.

Consequently, it would be uncommon for individuals, especially adult men, to be unfamiliar with this place.

The young man briefly wondered if this old man was living in a cave.

It was hard to believe that a man of his age could be unaware of Love Love Paradise, given its widespread reputation.

"Sir, from here, you can walk south and arrive at Magnolia Street. If you see many adult men wandering around there, then you've found the right place."

A few moments later, the young man watched the middle-aged man exit the building after paying the appraisal fee. With this, his job for today was basically finished.

Not long after, he also came out of the building.

As he looked upward, all he could see was a night sky full of stars and the magnificent glow of the aurora.

Time seemed to stretch endlessly, with no sign of the sun's return, as if it had been suspended in this perpetual state since the city's inception. Perhaps this is why it is called Evernight City.

This young man is Gilgamel, a person who experienced transmigration from Earth, where he led an unremarkable life as an ordinary college student.

His life was abruptly cut short in a fire caused by a stove left unattended. Upon his death, he found himself reincarnated as a newborn baby, with no memory of the transition process.

In his new life, he was born into a noble family; however, his noble status did not provide him with the privileges typically associated with such a position. Instead, Gilgamel faced significant mistreatment and hardships, which starkly contrasted with the expected lifestyle of a noble.

His daily experiences included begging servants for food and enduring harassment from his half-siblings. This mistreatment can be attributed to his mother's background as a former servant, leaving him marginalized within his own household.

As a transmigrator, how could he possibly accept such treatment?

If it weren't for something that held him back, he might have run away from that hellish house as soon as he could walk and talk.

It was quite miraculous that he managed to endure it for twelve years.

In his previous life, Gilgamel was an orphan who successfully managed to survive and finance his college education independently.

In this life, he had no reason to live dependent on others, particularly on those people who viewed him with disdain and treated him as if he were disposable.

At the age of twelve, Gilgamel made the pivotal decision to leave home without the approval of his cheap father or other relatives.

During his journey through various small towns, he encountered a compassionate elderly couple who offered him employment at their cozy inn. His responsibilities included cleaning and serving guests, and notably, he experienced no mistreatment during his six-month employment there.

An unexpected visitor arrived at the inn after six months: a woman claiming to be a traveling fortune teller. Lacking the funds to pay for a room, she proposed to the elderly couple that she would provide her services in exchange for accommodation. Despite the skepticism of her, the couple graciously allowed her to stay for free out of sympaty.

Feeling grateful, the fortune teller insisted on using her divination skills, ultimately performing a reading for Gilgamel.

Intrigued by this, he accepted her offer, marking his first encounter with a fortune teller.

Short process, the message from the reading was concise: "Your greatest opportunity lies in the South!"

The woman also cautioned him that neglecting this opportunity would be irrevocable.

The enigmatic woman who delivered the message also warned him that missing this opportunity would be irreversible.

This message left Gilgamel feeling uncertain and hesitant for a time, prompting him to consult with the elderly couple and they encouraged him by saying, "Feel free to go. You can always come back if you don't find anything."

Thus, with their support, Gilgamel decided to journey south, despite being unaware of what awaited him.

He travelled aimlessly for seven days and nights and eventually arrived at a strange and large city known as Evernight City, which was governed by a wizard organization called Owl.

It was here that Gilgamel realized this city might hold the significant opportunity he had been seeking.

His excitement surged when he discovered the existence of magic within this world, affirming that his journey had just begun.

Magic exists as a fundamental aspect of this world, and those who wield it are referred to as wizards and witches. However, only individuals with a natural talent for magic can claim this title.

Coincidentally, Gilgamel happened to possess that talent. Although it was only at the lowest level, it was better than having none.

Within the realm of magic, talents are categorized into four distinct categories, each characterized by unique abilities and attributes: Chaos, Medium, Advance, and Abstract.

Chaos Talent: Individuals in this category have a natural connection to the four basic elements—fire, water, wind, and earth. Despite their broad elemental access, chaos talents are often regarded as the lowest rank due to their slower progress in harnessing mana.

Medium Talent: Individuals in this category have a natural connection to the fewer basic elements. Their adeptness at gathering mana surpasses that of chaos talent, allowing them to progress faster in their practice.

Advanced Talent: Individuals in this category have a strong connection to more advanced elements, such as wood, ice, lightning, light, darkness, and more.

Abstract Talents: Representing the most exceptional category, abstract talents exhibit remarkable proficiency in mastering magic at an accelerated pace and possess the ability to understand and utilize a broad spectrum of magical forms.

Each category of magical talent offers distinct advantages and limitations. For example, chaos talents, while slow to train, can master all magic spells that derive from all basic elements.

Conversely, medium talents are quicker to learn but face restrictions on the variety of magic spells based on their elemental affinities.

Advanced talents are also limited by their specific affinities.

In contrast, wizards with abstract talent can wield any magic, making them highly sought after. This rarity often leads to conflicts among wizard organizations.

In the broader context, chaos talent is more commonly found akin to a ubiquitous weed. Without his unique talent and opportunity, Gilgamel would have struggled to gain entry into a prestigious wizard organization such as the Owl.

In the Moniyan Empire, several wizard organizations exist, with the Owl being one of the top three.

The leader of the Owl is celebrated as one of the most powerful wizards in the empire, contributing to the organization's prestigious reputation. As a result, the Owl implements stringent recruitment standards, making it challenging for wizards with chaos talents to gain entry.

Despite these challenges, Gilgamel, who possesses chaos talent, successfully joined the Owl due to the recognition of a senior member during a chance encounter. With this senior figure's backing, Gilgamel navigated the organization effectively, allowing him to progress from an ordinary mortal to the rank of First Circle Wizard.

In the realm of magic, every aspiring wizard embarks on their journey as a Novice Wizard.

This foundational stage is crucial as beginners focus on mastering the basics of magic, particularly the fundamental magic spell of Telekinesis, which involves the manipulation of objects using mana and concentration.

Progression within the wizarding community is structured into ten levels, classified from the Zero Circle Wizard to the Ninth Circle Wizard. As novice wizards advance, they transition from the weakest tier represented by the Zero Circle Wizard to the most powerful tier embodied by the Ninth Circle Wizard.

Typically, less naturally talented individuals, such as Gilgamel, require approximately two years to progress from Novice Wizard to Zero Circle Wizard. However, Gilgamel achieved this advancement in just one year, all because he had a Goldfinger!

Since his initiation as a Novice Wizard, Gilgamel has gained access to a distinctive ability associated with a mysterious book that has manifested in his mind.

This book grants him the ability to identify any object within his line of sight.

However, this ability comes with a cost. Gilgamel needs to consume a certain amount of mana crystal every time he wants to appraise an object. The cost varies depending on the object's value, with higher-value items requiring more mana crystals.

To optimize the use of this ability and generate additional income, Gilgamel decided to establish a small appraisal business within the city. This venture not only aids in his magic training but also allows him to leverage the unique power bestowed by the mysterious book.
