Chapter 21 - UNSUPPORTED DREAMS

Why are they like that to me? They never want to see me do what I love and be happy and support my dreams said Haruko as she tucked her knee to her chest and hugged them recalling and reminiscing the events that took place earlier in the day.

Haruko said coach Maeda. Yes coach, what is it? Asked Haruko. I would like to have a word with you, come with me said Coach Maeda as she walked while leading Haruko somewhere private for a one on one talk. Now that we are alone , I want to ask you a question. And what might that be coach? Do you know why I appointed you captain of this team? Asked Coach Maeda.

I'm not sure, is it because I'm one of the seniors and it's my last year Haruko guessed. No, that's not why. I gave you the position because both the former captain and I saw something in you that I didn't in any other person on the team. You're hardworking and you never give up until you achieve what you set out for.

Today was a great demonstration. You were scoring a lot of points which took both me and your teammates by surprise. If I may add you were also able to score a three pointer in the game. What really, I made a three pointer? Asked Haruko shocked. I want you to work on that everyday at training, I somehow feel that it will be our key to victory. You were amazing out there, and I was very impressed by what you were doing today. Keep up the good work Haruko.

Yes, thank you very much said Haruko as she smiled happily. Later that day at the dining table Haruko was eating with her elder sister, her mother and father . Being unable to hold back her excitement about the praises she received from her coach and the urge to convince her family that she's serious about basketball Haruko starts sharing this with her.

Mom , dad I have some really great news said Haruko.

What is it honey? Asked her father. I was praised by my coach earlier today. She said that I was great and that she gave me the captain role because of how hardworking I am , and also I was scoring a whole lot today that never happened before…

Listen Haruko… said her father in a low but masculine tone. I think it's time for you to quit basketball. What? But I showed you results, I've gotten a whole lot better so why would you propose that! Dear sit down , do not raise your voice at this table said Haruko's mother as she tapped her shoulders to sit.

A young woman of your class, born into a wealthy family with status should not be engaging in such physical sport. And it's disgraceful knowing that you're playing and making a fool of yourself by loosing your first or second match every time. This is the last time I'm serious and I hope that you listen, quit basketball and join something that will help you in the long run, like a cooking club or student council

I can't just quit like that,I love basketball, I've been playing ever since I was a child , I will not give it up for anything in the world or for the likes of you said Haruko with extreme emotions. Let me be clear if you don't stop playing basketball you'll loose my support, I will not support you when it comes to basketball in any way. It's about time for you to grow up and move on, do you even love basketball? Hun, that was too far, you shouldn't have said that said Haruko's mom.

But… murmured Haruko as she look over the table at Sachiko who was silent throughout the whole entire conversation. And instead of having Haruko's back she looks away as if she's trying to avoid the problem which hurts Haruko and she started to cry and ran off to to her room slamming the door.

After about half an hour of crying I got my stuff pack up and was ready to run away however, where would I go? So I eventually calmed myself down and unpacked everything. Then a thought came to my mind why don't I go to the court to blow off some steam. And now here I am waiting on someone I've only met once hoping that he'd understand because my parents doesn't ,they see my passion as a waste of time rather than supporting me , why? Why can't they understand?

Haruko Takahashi said Tetsuo startling Haruko. Huh! Oh it's you, you actually came said Haruko. So what do you want? Well, for now I just want to talk about some things just lend me an ear.

Say, have you ever loved something , something that's really important to you. But no matter how much you love it everyone around you just wants to take it away along with all of the happiness and joy it brings said Haruko vaguely. I cannot say that I have, however I get what you mean. When something or someone is precious to you, you want to protect it at all cost and you'll never let anyone take it from you. I see , thanks for your response, it makes me sorta happy.

Now then, I would like for you to teach me how to make a layup, if you don't mind said Haruko. For some reason this feels like that déjà vu thing my sister always mumbles about. Did this ever happen before or am I just overthinking things, did we meet each other before all this? Tetsuo asked himself.

Okay listen carefully, to make a layup you are only allowed two step, if you take more than the two steps a travel will be called and the ball will go to your opponent. To properly execute it you need to the ball in that square, it will increase your accuracy.

Okay focus you got it Haruko said to herself trying to think positively as she dribbles the basketball. Haruko drove to the rim , took her two steps and followed Tesuo's instructions. The ball hits the backboard and Swishes. Wow I actually made it, it's a whole lot easier than shooting. Thank you,I really needed this, our matches are rapidly approaching and I want to be prepared
