Chapter 4 - Overworked

Jose ran outside the store, seeking to avoid the clutter and potential traps within its confined space. The open street offered more room to maneuver, which he desperately needed. The five orcs before him wielded an assortment of brutal weapons: two great swords, a halberd, a mace, a morning star, and the Boss Orc brandishing a massive battle axe.

Without hesitation, Jose sprinted toward the orcs, using his momentum to leap into their midst, aiming directly for the Boss. As he flew through the air, he conjured a thick blanket of smoke, enveloping the orcs and obscuring their vision.

The Boss Orc, momentarily taken aback, did not strike Jose mid-air, allowing him to land safely within their ranks. The smoke caused chaos among the orcs, who began to panic and swing their weapons blindly. Their wild attacks struck each other more often than not, resulting in a cacophony of metal clashing and pained roars.

"New Skill Acquired," a robotic voice announced, but Jose had no time to process this. He focused on evading the wild swings of the orcs, moving through the smoke with a blend of agility and desperation. Inside the chaotic smoke, it was a brutal melee, with weapons hitting flesh and bone that wasn't Jose's. Despite being drenched in blood, he realized it was the orcs' blood, triggering his Berserker skill and significantly boosting his abilities.

After a grueling minute of thrashing within the smoke, the Boss Orc emerged, enraged and with eyes glowing red. His body bore numerous wounds, a testament to the indiscriminate violence that had occurred within the smoky haze. As the smoke dissipated due to Jose's mana depletion, the Boss Orc locked eyes with him, fury burning in its gaze.

Seeing Jose standing unscathed only fueled the Boss's rage further. The ground seemed to tremble beneath its weight as it charged at Jose, swinging the massive battle axe with deadly intent. Jose knew he had to use every ounce of his enhanced strength and agility to survive this fight.

Jose tightened his grip on his axe, bracing himself as the Boss Orc charged. The giant swung its massive battle axe with terrifying force. Jose attempted to parry the swing, but the impact nearly bent his own axe and sent shockwaves through his arms, almost shattering his bones. The sheer power of the attack was overwhelming, but he managed to twist his body and escape the worst of the blow, narrowly avoiding a fatal strike.

He threw the broken axe at the monster and dashed towards the scattered weapons of the dead orcs, knowing it was almost impossible to kill the boss with his bare fists. The boss merely slapped the projectile aside and swung another attack at Jose. Feeling the attack coming at his back, he rolled to the side and dashed even faster.

He first grabbed the morning star, an unfamiliar weapon for a modern man, but he had no other choice. He tried to get close to the Orc Boss and, using his momentum, swung the morning star at the monster. However, the boss saw through his movements and kicked Jose in the chest. Jose managed to block with the morning star, causing some damage to the boss as the spiked weapon dug into its leg, unfortunately, the force of the kick was so strong that it sent Jose flying backward, slamming him into a wall with enough force to crack it. Blood spurted from his mouth, and he felt some of his ribs break. Despite the pain, he quickly opened the system shop and bought another healing potion. While the boss monster was momentarily distracted by the pain and its reduced mobility, Jose downed the potion, feeling his injuries begin to mend.

As the boss orc powered through the pain, it charged toward Jose's position. Jose, aware of the orc's injured foot, turned the encounter into a game of cat and mouse. The orc chased him relentlessly, but Jose kept his distance, using his speed and agility to stay just out of reach. Along the way, he grabbed another weapon from the ground, further enraging the boss monster. Unbeknownst to Jose, each time he picked up a new weapon, a system notification popped up. The chase lasted for half a minute, with the boss orc visibly slowing down due to its injuries.

"It's my turn now!" Jose bellowed, seizing a great sword from the ground. With some mana recovered after the chase, he lunged at the weakening boss, enveloping it in smoke once again. With visibility reduced to nil, the boss swung blindly, while Jose patiently waited for an opening. When the opportunity arose, he lunged forward, driving the great sword into the boss's stomach. In agony, the boss instinctively lashed out, striking the area where Jose had stabbed it and sending him flying backward once again.

The boss's attack was powerful, but not powerful enough to kill Jose, who now wore a crazed smile with bloodied teeth. As the smoke dissipated, it revealed a not-so-surprising scene: the boss was dying from blood loss. However, it was not ready to surrender. With one last ounce of strength, the boss let out a roar with all of its might before collapsing to the ground, breathing its last breath.

With the boss defeated, Jose emerged victorious, panting heavily but exhilarated by his triumph. The system immediately notified him of his success, rewarding him with the promised bounty. Yet, amidst the celebrations, a lingering sense of unease remained. The final roar of the boss, it seemed, had triggered a sub-quest, one that would force Jose to confront the wrath of all the orcs. Despite the weariness creeping into his bones, Jose knew that his ordeal was far from over. Gathering his resolve, he prepared himself for the next battle, knowing that his newfound strength and skills would be put to the ultimate test.
