Chapter 2 - Heaven’s cry

'This can't be it, I can't let that dream or whatever it is come to life. I am the author of my own story and how it ends depends on me and no one else. Not some stupid dream.'

With this I scurried off into the woods in search of my mother who was currently knocking on death's door at the moment. I had finally made up my mind to help save my mother no matter what.

The trees in the forest gave way as I ventured through them without a second thought. My mind was no longer working as how it used.

Ba-thump!

Ba-thump!

My heart kept beating and hurting in my chest as I proceeded towards my inevitable death. This was the very time my heart had ever beaten like this—my whole body was in shambles due to this.

I am a hunter and even though I use to hunt rabbits, I still knew how to keep my heartbeat from giving me away. This situation was totally out of the question. She had always protected and cared for me each time I was sick or had gotten into any form of trouble.

My steps quickened as these thoughts flooded my mind. I now understood what I had to be done at the moment— saving mother at all cost since she was the cornerstone of my life.

Moving closer, inch by inch, my whole body was feeling sore and my left arm which had been fractured was still being a pain in my ass. I hated seeing it like that but what could I say or do, this was what fate had presented me with: a broken arm which could do nothing against that monster.

'No! I don't care about fate anymore, she is a one-sided bitch who has decided to struck me with all sort of misfortunes. Is this the only thing she has to offer me?', I shouted to myself in an attempt to boost my morale but it did zero to nothing to ease the eerie feeling.

Moving forward had caused my heart to beat much more faster.

Rustle!

Hearing the rustling of some leaves ahead of me, I had quickly gotten on my knees, crouching and crawling had quite become my only way of approaching the place the sound had come from. I don't know if this was a very bad idea but that was the kind of state my mind was in. Approaching danger even though I knew that I could die at any point in time.

I finally passed by the leaves which had rustled and up ahead was something my eyes couldn't actually bring into focus. What laid up ahead was the distorted silhouette of something.

Just at first glance I was able to identify who it was right. It was that monster, that diabolical creature who had caused my pain and suffering. Checking out my surroundings, I had picked up and a tree branch and a stone from the ground. These were the weapons my unstable mind could come up with.

'I'm coming mother! I will finally avenge you!', I said with a smirk on my face. I didn't know why but I felt that I was at my peak which was totally what my mind was telling me.

With all I had, I charged towards the silhouette I had seen far ahead with the stick in hand. This had to work no matter what. The distance between the monster and I rapidly decreased since it was stationary and I was the one trying to land a hit.

'Is this going to work?', I asked myself rhetorically. I propped the tree branch up while slowly throwing up the stone which was supposed to serve as my improvised bullet. This was indeed a dumb thing to do but I still had to try it out no matter what.

I took a thorough glance of the place as I approached the monster which was currently in a daze.

PAW!

The sound reverberated throughout the woods as the tree had landed directly on the side of the stone. This had quickly sent it rushing towards the monster which still stood unfazed even after hearing the sound of the commotion.

This was the sort of monster it was, one which believed so much in its strength that it did not even give a damn about what I was doing. This was an absurd thing to see but it had favored me. Who was I to complain in the end.

Biting away at my fingers, I stared eerily away as the projectile continued its trajectory towards the monster. My anxiety bubbled up as the stone approached the monster which stood unfazed by what was going on.

Boom!

The sound was made when the stone had finally landed. Surprisingly, it had landed right on the side of the monster's head. I almost screamed for joy after withnessing my plans sail through successfully.

Now all that was left was for me to discover where my mother was. I tried my best to search around for traces of blood but to no avail there was none within the vicinity which was quite mesmerizing for me.

Growl!

The monster crushed the stone with its long dangling fingers. Afterwards he threw the particles right back at me or should I say the direction where I was supposed to be. Rolling and panting I had tried my best to dodge the particles using my ears .

They moved swiftly, cutting across the night using the momentum provided by the hands of the monster. I was almost done evading all of its attack when I had unfortunately fallen on a twig, breaking it into two with the production of a sound which tore through the night sky.

Though it was small and almost minute it's damage was soon noticed as wooden spikes started coming towards my body. My body which was still trying to recover after going through so much more than it can take.

I had do something. I couldn't just stay down for the spikes to end my life, I thought deeply in my feeble mind. Out of sheer will and determination not to die, I bolted towards towards an area where I would be safe from the danger lurking away.

All I could do was to move without thinking. Something I mostly did when I was pushed to my core. This though had done more harm than good since I could now see the monster. It seemed to be gnawing on something.

Something which seemed familiar to me. The clothes which had been torn to shreds by its side said everything. It was my mother's flesh that, that monster was hungrily gobbling on. This sight had totally caused my blood to boil and the hairs at the back of my neck to stand upright.

"Leave my mother alone!", I had shouted while moving hurriedly towards the monster without thinking. I had done this on impulse. Swinging my hands out when I was in range, I had done my best to get a punch in on the creature. Aiming for its head which had two glowing yellow eyes embedded in it, I had hopped with all my might. I no longer cared if I died, all I wanted was a chance to kill that bastard. That was the only this sour taste in my mouth and this stinging pain in my chest could vanish completely.

For a brief moment I thought I had gained what I wanted but something had made me to quickly recognize my foolishness. A devilish smirk appeared on the monsters face. A slight smile appeared afterwards then a chuckle.

"Humans, you always seem to amaze me each time I come into contact with one of your kind. You always hate one another but when I decide to take one of you away, you then tend to try and save those you hate. Sorry but this is as far as you go", a dark, heavy and distorted voice had thrusted these words into my ears.

My whole body was at peace for a moment and in the next my whole body seemed to be on fire as several wooden spikes had pierced vigorously into my body. Screams of terror escalated when the sensitivity of my body had kicked in involuntarily.

Who was I to blame my body now, all it did was perform one of the many functions which it has always done since I was born. Blood splattered on the ground as the spikes pulled out of my blood which was already slowly giving up on life.

The monster had turned to live but I had used my last seconds to ask it a question, a question which was going to change my life for ever. "What is your name?", I asked while shadows danced within my vision.

The monster stood abruptly, turned and looked me straight in the eye. "I am Amon", it said and continued to move on whiles carrying mother's half eaten corpse away.

Tears left my eyes uncontrollably as I stared into the night. Mother, she had always told me stories about celestial beings called angels. She had always loved to talk about them since she had believed in them to be her saviors. 'Where were they when she needed help from them?', I asked with my eyesight slowly fading away.

This was until a screen had popped up in front of my eyes. 'Is this death's way of laughing at me?', I had asked myself.

[The heavens has seen your will, it has granted you a second chance. You have being blessed with the mark of an angel's halo]
