Chapter 1 - The Beginning

I'm faced with this brilliant light, as if I'm staring into the sun itself, and for a moment, I see a face, one I don't recognize. The closer I get, the brighter it glows, yet I inch closer and closer. Soon enough I stare at a blank face, no facial features, yet I feel a sort of comfort, being close to this faceless being, could this be God?

Well you might wonder how I'm facing this God-like being, and I'm wondering the same thing. Back on earth, where I, Lexter Von Grey, was living as a soldier in the military, dying a miserable death after being shot in the chest during a mission to eliminate a terrorist group. The blood from my body covered the barren lands of Africa, and my body laid cold, being food for the vultures.

Now I'm face to face with this being of light, and he mumbles some words before opening a screen in front of my face.

———————————––

As I look through the list of traits three catch my eyes, Trait of the Knight, Trait of the Curser, and Trait of the Wizard. I look through each of their descriptions and notice that many of the skills were locked, and they branched out like a great oak tree, like a skill tree in video games. The descriptions were also quite short and brief, giving little information to work with.

Trait of the Knight

This trait's passive ability boosts physical damage, and enhances the overall physicality and senses of the person.

Trait of the Curser

This trait's passive ability gives immunity to curses below the person's own level.

Trait of the Wizard

This trait's passive ability inlays mana veins in the person's body, allowing the person to freely use mana, and allows the person to absorb the mana in the air at a faster rate than normal.

I was hesitant to choose the traits since the descriptions weren't that detailed, but I had a gut feeling these traits would be more handy than those other traits, maybe the cleric could come in handy but I had no reason to pick it as I had no idea of medicinal herbs. I pick them one by one, and as I pick the last trait, the being of light speaks again.

"You picked right, you will be the Incarnated as @%#(@!@*&# in this new world"

As he finishes his sentence, a circle forms underneath my feet, glowing bright then seconds later disappearing, I stand there confused.

"Did he fail?" I question his abilities

"What did you say I'm incarnating as?" I question since his words were like static, the ones from old TV's that you would hate.

As I finish the sentence, my body falls to the ground, and seconds later I open my eyes to a sea of trees, as far as the eye can see. I feel a sense of warm water like substance flowing throughout my body, this must be mana.

I close my eyes, and try to sense the mana around me, completely discommunicated my mind from my body. As I looked around I saw little particles of blue dust that were slowly clustering towards my body. It creeped through my skin and entered my body, then condensed into a pool of mana that flowed throughout the mana veins that branched out throughout my body.

I open my eyes, and look at my own body. I had imagined that with the trait of the Knight my body would have more muscles, yet I was as scrawny as a twig that would flow through the wind.

I had some rags of clothes on, and my body was covered in dirt and mud.

"I guess that being really wanted to humble me" I mumble as I check out what else I was gifted by that being.

My belt was decorated with a short sword, a small pouch, and a glass bottle filled with a red liquid which I had no idea of the use of. As I get a feel for my surroundings I see a river far across the sea of trees, which I would have to maneuver through in order to reach the river. I slowly descended from the platform which I had awoken on, and made my journey towards the water source.

As I went through the forest I noticed something, my sense of hearing, smell, and sight were all enhanced. I could notice the subtle sounds of the winds, the leaves falling from the endless trees, and even the wind brushing against the tall grass. I could smell the scent carried through the wind, scents of countless animals.

The wind didn't only bring the scent of animals, but also the scent of blood. The scent of blood had paralyzed me for a moment, making me think of my past life, and the agony of death. A cold sweat ran from the top of my forehead and down off of my chin, eventually hitting the ground. As I looked at the ground, I saw piles of bones, ones that were half the size of my own body.

"Have I wandered into a nesting ground for a wild beast?" I quietly say to myself, as I scout my surroundings, hoping nothing has seen me.

As I turned around to see the path I came from, the only thing that stood there was a pair of fangs, and claws, ready to viciously maul my body. I hurriedly reach for my sword, with my trembling hands, I point it towards the beast.

"How come I couldn't hear it approaching me?" I question myself, "I was able to hear the silent wind blow through the air, yet I couldn't hear this large beast approach me?"

The beast, with black fur that hung off of it, and large fangs like the ancient saber toothed tiger, leaped towards me, swiping its paws, but missed each time.

As I took a closer look at the beast, I noticed one of its eyes was gouged out. As it was blind on its left side, I had decided to stay towards the left, where it would have difficulty seeing me. I raise my short sword and swing down, barely grazing the ferocious beast's flesh. With quick footwork, I head towards the beast, piercing the flesh of the beast, then I repeat this action a few more times. As the beast frantically tried attacking me by swinging its paws, It eventually bled out, leaving a cold corpse.

I fall to the ground, panting, my hands tremble as I drop my weapon. After I rested for what seemed like a few minutes, I got back up, looking at the sky which had started to darken. My stomach grumbles as I look at the beast.

"It's a first time for everything" I say as I cut up the beast.

The beast's fur, still reeking of flesh and blood, was wrapped around me as a blanket. I gathered a bunch of sticks that laid beneath the many trees of the forest, and piled them up to set up a campfire.

"The only problem is, I don't have anything to light it with" I say to myself, as I think of ways I could start a fire.

Back on earth we could just use a lighter or a match, but how could I start a fire in this newfound world, I question myself. In deep thought, I remembered watching many shows, where the wizard casted spells to summon fire.

I focus my mind, channeling mana through the many mana veins that run throughout my body, imagining a small flame appearing from my palms. An ember appears, then disappears just as fast as it had appeared. I let out a deep sigh, and tried again, after countless failed attempts, the sky was pitch black, a chilling breeze brushing my face and hair.

The only thing keeping me from freezing up into an ice cube as of this moment is this blanket I made out of the beast's fur. I tried to cast the spell again, my mind had canceled out every other thought, and my mana pool had restored some mana. I felt a stream of mana flow from the mana pool, to my mana veins, then to the palm of my hands, and after a few seconds, a bright orange flame, the size of my finger appeared, floating slightly above my hands.

As I cast the fire spell onto the bunched up twigs and branches, I grabbed the skewers I had made from branches, and pierced the meat cubes I made from the beast. I lay the skewers onto the fire for it to cook, watching as the flames kissed the meat, and as the juices drip into the fire.

I watched as the meat sizzled with the ever so gentle touch of the flame, after a while, the meat had looked ready for consumption. I grab the burning hot skewers and devour the meat. It tasted slightly like beef, and was tough to chew, yet I chomped away at the meat as I admired the stars in the sky.
