Chapter 16 - Chapter 15: Us With Minor Problem

As the sun begins to set, orange light envelops the oasis, creating a calm and peaceful atmosphere. However, their activities are not finished yet. Aether, Beatrice, Heather, Leona, and Finn agreed to look for the spices needed to cook the Dire Wolf they had just defeated.

Heather provided a list of the ingredients they would need:

- Desert Sage Leaves: Provides a distinctive aroma and taste.

- Hairy Cactus Fruit: Adds a hint of sweetness and crunchy texture.

- Black Sand Salt: A natural mineral from the desert that has a strong taste.

- Desert Paprika: Provides a unique spicy taste.

- Yellow Desert Onions: Provides a strong base flavor.

- Radiation Neutralizing Herbs: Rare herbs that grow around the oasis, used to remove radiation from mutant creatures such as Dire Wolves.

Aether and Beatrice were assigned to look for Desert Sage Leaves, Hairy Cactus Fruit, and Radiation Neutralizing Herbs. The two of them walked towards the north of the oasis, where many rare herbs could be found. Heather, Leona, and Finn spread out in other directions to search for the remaining ingredients.

After some time searching, Aether found a Desert Sage Leaf growing near a large rock. Beatrice, with great precision, found several Hairy Cactus Fruits hidden among the thorny bushes. Not far away, they also found Radiation Neutralizing Herbs growing under the shade of a large tree. They gathered the materials carefully and decided to return to the camp.

However, as they started walking home, Aether and Beatrice felt the presence of something mysterious. They exchanged glances, feeling that something or someone was watching them from behind the bushes. Beatrice tightened her grip on her wand, while Aether gripped her sword tighter.

"Did you feel that?" whispered Beatrice in a low voice.

Aether nodded. "Yeah, we have to be careful. Be ready for anything."

They quickened their pace, trying not to attract attention. Suddenly, a rustling sound could be heard from behind them. Aether turned around quickly, only to see a dark shadow rapidly moving away.

"Get ready, we have to return to camp immediately," said Aether firmly.

They both started running, trying as fast as possible to reach a safe place. Even though they didn't see anything obvious, the feeling of threat did not disappear. Finally, they arrived at the camp, where Heather, Leona, and Finn were waiting anxiously.

"What happened?" Heather asked in a worried tone.

"We felt something watching us," answered Beatrice while panting. "We couldn't see it clearly, but it made us feel unsafe."

Leona frowned. "Is it possible that it's one of the creatures from another world that Heather told us about? We need to be more alert."

Finn nodded. "We'll take turns keeping watch tonight. Don't let anything get close to the camp without us knowing."

Aether and Beatrice agreed, relieved that they were back to safety. They handed over the ingredients they had gathered, including the Radiation Neutralizing Herbs, and Heather began cooking the Dire Wolf with the existing spices.

When the food was almost ready, Aether sat down by the campfire and started blasting the song "Dear Hearts and Gentle People" with the Vault Boy Radio he brought. His voice was soft and soothing, inviting everyone's attention.

Leona smiled. "I remember this song. A beautiful and meaningful song."

Heather nodded. "This song reminds us of home, of our loved ones and warm community. Even though we are in a far away and dangerous place, this song brings back happy memories."

Beatrice joins in the singing, followed by Finn and eventually everyone. Their voices echoed in the oasis, creating a beautiful harmony amidst the lonely desert. The song describes feelings of nostalgia and longing for a loving place, a place where they are accepted and loved.

When they sang the last verse, they felt closer to each other, as if the song had strengthened their bond. Even though they are in a world full of danger and uncertainty, they find comfort in togetherness and happy memories.

After the song finished, Heather served the Dire Wolf dishes that were ready, ensuring that the Radiation Neutralizing Herbs had been used to eliminate the harmful effects of radiation. They enjoy dinner with gratitude, realizing that amidst all the threats, they still have each other and the memories that can bring peace to their hearts.

That night, around the campfire, they shared stories and laughs, maintaining the spirit of togetherness they had built. Despite the invisible threat, a feeling of security and peace surrounds them, giving them the strength to face tomorrow with more courage.

~A Mysterious Thing?~

As the night progressed, everyone in the camp was fast asleep except for a few who took turns keeping watch. The campfire began to dim, leaving behind gently flickering embers. Aether woke up in the middle of the night with an inexplicable feeling of restlessness. He got up slowly, realizing that he was sleeping alone in a corner of the camp. The sound of the silent desert night added to his anxiety.

Aether gripped his sword tightly, prepared to face whatever might happen. As his eyes adjusted to the darkness, he saw a mysterious shadow moving at the outskirts of the camp. The shadow seemed to be watching him with disturbing intensity.

Aether's heart was pounding. He felt that something was wrong, as if someone or something wanted to kidnap him. He reminded himself to stay calm and not make any noise that might wake the others or attract the shadow's attention.

Slowly, Aether stood up and moved closer to the shadow, trying not to make the slightest sound. However, before he could get any closer, the shadow moved quickly towards him. Aether felt his heartbeat speed up as he raised his sword, ready to fight.

"Who are you?" Aether asked in a firm voice, even though his heart was filled with fear. The shadow stopped for a moment, then quickly turned around and disappeared into the dark night.

Aether felt confused. what just happened? Who or what is watching him? He knew that this was nothing ordinary, and the feeling of threat was very real. Cautiously, Aether decided to check around the camp, making sure that nothing dangerous was hiding.

When he returns to the camp, he finds Finn standing guard. Finn saw Aether's tense face and immediately realized that something had happened.

"What's wrong, Aether?" Finn asked in a low voice, so as not to wake the others.

"There's someone or something watching us. I saw a mysterious shadow, and I feel like they have bad intentions," Aether answered.

Finn nodded, realizing the seriousness of the situation. "We have to be more alert. Maybe they'll try to attack us when we're off guard."

Aether agreed. The two of them went around the camp, making sure that everyone was safe and that there were no immediate threats. After a while, they returned to where they stood guard, remaining alert throughout the night.

That morning, as the sun began to rise, Aether told Heather, Leona, and Beatrice what happened that night. They all listened attentively, knowing that this threat was probably bigger than they had previously thought.

Heather sighed. "We need to be more careful. Maybe this is a warning that we are being watched by something more dangerous than just a Dire Wolf."

Leona agreed. "We need to improve our defenses and ensure that no one can approach the camp without us knowing."

Beatrice held Aether's hand, providing support and strength. "We will face this together, Aether. We will not let anything harm us."

With renewed resolve, they all agreed to increase their vigilance and prepare for whatever might happen. Even though the threat is still mysterious, they know that with togetherness and determination, they can overcome any obstacles that come their way.

As morning approaches and sunlight begins to shine into the camp, Aether, Beatrice, Heather, Leona, and Finn gather to discuss the events of the previous night. After listening to Aether's explanation about the mysterious shadow, Beatrice couldn't hide her anxiety.

After the meeting was over and the others were busy with morning preparations, Beatrice approached Aether who was sitting alone. He sat beside him, looking into Aether's eyes seriously.

"Aether, I want to talk about what happened last night," Beatrice said in a soft but firm voice. "What exactly did you feel when you saw that shadow?"

Aether sighed, remembering the uneasy feeling that hit him in the middle of the night. "I feel there are bad intentions from that shadow, Beatrice. Like someone wants to kidnap or harm us. That's not a feeling that can be ignored."

Beatrice nodded, understanding Aether's concerns. "Do you think this has anything to do with the mutations or monsters that Heather told you about? Maybe they're not just wild animals or ordinary creatures."

Aether pondered for a moment before answering. "It's possible. After the nuclear war, many strange and dangerous things appeared in this world. It could be that the shadow is one of a creature or human that has changed due to radiation."

Beatrice squeezed Aether's hand, trying to provide support. "We must remain alert, Aether. We cannot let fear control us. We must be ready to face whatever comes."

Aether nodded, feeling a little relieved by Beatrice's support. "You're right, Beatrice. We'll get through this together. I just hope we can find answers about who or what is watching us."

Beatrice smiled gently, although worry was still visible in her eyes. "I'm sure we can do it. With Heather, Leona, Finn, and all of us working together, we can definitely face this threat."

Aether nodded, feeling his spirits rise again. "Thank you, Beatrice. I don't know what will happen, but I know we're not alone in facing this."

The two of them sat in silence for a moment, enjoying a moment of calm before continuing with what might be a challenging day. Even though the mysterious shadow is still an enigma, Aether and Beatrice feel stronger because they know that they have each other's backs and will face whatever comes together.
