Chapter 4 - Chapter Four: Reunion (Part Two)

"That beautiful woman over there seems hard to approach. She hasn't danced a single dance so far." It seemed like many people were paying attention to her actions.

"Why don't you give it a try? You might do well," I casually interjected.

"Me? Boss, I think it should be you," the group of guys looked at me in unison. I was their leader, their department head. They liked to call me boss, and in their eyes, my status was still high. After all, despite being the same age as them, I received four or five times their salary. In this situation, if I said no, it would definitely undermine my position in their eyes. Besides, I had been searching for reasons to ask her to dance all night, and now there was a ready-made opportunity. It was perfect timing.

With this group of guys admiring me, I walked straight toward her. As I got closer, my heart raced faster. In a very short time, I considered dozens of reactions in case she rejected me and how to face those guys. Just as I approached her and hadn't yet reached out to ask her to dance, she actually pointed to the empty seat next to her and said, "Sit."

I took the opportunity to sit down, at least avoiding the embarrassment of asking her to dance in front of everyone. I could talk to her privately, even if I got rejected, it wouldn't be too embarrassing.

"Why aren't you dancing?" I asked tentatively.

"Did you come to ask me to dance?"

"Sort of."

"I haven't danced all night."

"I know." As soon as I said that, I regretted it. It was like admitting that I had been watching her all night, and it completely undermined my confidence.

"Then aren't you afraid that dancing with me will invite the envy of others?" She joked, looking at me.

"Do you think sitting here and talking to you won't invite envy from others?" Every woman likes compliments, and she was no exception. At least she gave me a faint smile. The dim light reflected on her shallow dimples, which were truly intoxicating.

"Do you know why I'm not dancing?"

"Do you need a reason? Are there any worthy dance partners here?" This compliment seemed a bit inappropriate, and she gave me a glare.

"Hateful. Actually, I don't know how to dance at all, not even a little bit," she said seriously, twitching her cute nose.

I liked her answer because I naturally hated this kind of activity. I decided to take advantage of this very favorable situation to have a deeper conversation with this "beautiful woman." But then another girl, who was quite pretty but somehow made me feel annoyed, came over to her and whispered something in her ear. My eighth sense told me it wasn't good news because the process of getting to know and familiarize myself with beautiful women was always long and full of difficulties and twists and turns.

Sure enough, she politely turned to me and said, "I have something to do. Let's chat another time. Bye."

I politely stood up and said, "Let me walk you out." I knew that doing so was definitely a gentleman's demeanor, but my intention was not just that because I wanted to walk her home since she lived downstairs from me.

Walking out of the hall to the outdoors, the sky was already dark, but the lights of the city were still dazzling. A cool breeze blew, taking away the sweat from my nervousness, and I felt a hint of relief. I was a weak man, always so nervous in front of beautiful women. Although I had tried countless ways to "cure" myself of this problem, the results were always ineffective.

"Do you want me to walk you home?" I didn't know where today's courage came from. Perhaps it was because she was exceptionally beautiful, but I finally said the words I had repeated in my mind seventy-six times from the hall to here.

She didn't immediately answer me, just looked at me with those beautiful big eyes. I felt she was thinking, and my heart started racing... Unfortunately, the girl who was quite pretty but somehow made me feel annoyed spoke again, "Ran Jing, let's go."

She glanced at me again and said, "I'm going back to the dorm today, not there." After saying that, she smiled and left.

I was also not interested in continuing with that meaningless event, and I had already "successfully" made those guys see me walk out of the hall with the beautiful half. Tomorrow, I would be able to accept their envy to satisfy my vanity. So, I chose to go home.
