"Oh," Truce murmured, realizing he was treading on delicate ground.
He quickly shifted his tone, trying to cover his slip. "I mean, now that she's gone, I'm confident you and Anna will have more space to be together. And thanks to her, I got to spend time with Anna."
Sydney smiled softly, nodding. "I know, right? She was the one who suggested you come pick Anna up."
"Yes," Truce said, his lips curving into a faint smile. "For a moment, though, I thought you asked me to pick her up on your own terms."
Sydney let out a nervous chuckle, her cheeks warming as she glanced away, feeling uncharacteristically shy.
Though she tried to keep things neutral, Sydney couldn't ignore the tension building between them.
Deep down, she knew Truce's feelings for her lingered, and as much as it pained her, she also knew she couldn't reciprocate.
Her heart had always belonged to someone else.
