As Sydney stepped out of the room, her mind was still reeling from the chaos, but she was startled by the unexpected sound of Anna's voice on the other end of the phone.
She had assumed it was Truce who had called, but this was something entirely different.
"Hey sweetheart," Sydney greeted, her voice cheery and light, unaware of the sour expression Jordan had been wearing when she'd called someone else "sweetheart" so casually.
As she walked toward the window to take in the surroundings of the company, Sydney spoke into the phone, her voice full of curiosity.
"Anna, aren't you supposed to be at school? Why do you have Truce's phone with you?"
On the other end of the line, Anna's voice rang out with youthful excitement.
"Mummy, Daddy Truce gave me the phone to use!" Her words made Sydney's eyes widen in surprise.
"What? Is Truce right there with you?" Sydney asked, her tone now laced with concern, unsure what to make of this situation.
