"Your aunt, how do you know so much about Fu Tingxiu's childhood?" Mengning asked, puzzled.
Fang Qiong's heart skipped a beat, realizing she had said too much.
Embarrassed, Fang Qiong chuckled, "Oh, it's all things his mother told me before. When women get together, they naturally talk most about their children, so I just picked up on it."
"Oh," Mengning nodded, finding it reasonable.
Seizing the opportunity, Fang Qiong urged, "Mengning, you and Tingxiu should also have a child. Once you have children, everything changes; men become more family-oriented and responsible."
Mengning thought about how she and Fu Tingxiu still slept in separate beds. The idea of having children was not pressing for her.
"Auntie, I know you mean well for us, but having children depends on fate," Mengning replied.
Fang Qiong cut to the chase, "Are you still sleeping separately from him?"
Mengning hesitated, feeling awkward.
Taking Mengning's hand, Fang Qiong said earnestly, "Mengning, don't blame me for being nosy. Tingxiu is a good man. If you hold onto him well, the men in the Fu family are absolutely loyal in marriage. As long as you and Tingxiu are good, you'll live a blessed life. I won't recognize anyone else, only you as Tingxiu's wife."
Mengning was touched by Fang Qiong's approval.
"Auntie, I..." Mengning started, but her phone rang suddenly.
She quickly wiped her hands and answered the call.
It was from the HR department of Shengyu Corporation. "Is this Ms. Mengning? This is the HR department of Shengyu Corporation. Your interview has been successful. Please bring your medical report and come to the company to complete the employment procedures as soon as possible."
Mengning was stunned by the news. She confirmed on the phone that it was indeed Shengyu Corporation and thanked them repeatedly.
After hanging up, she was still in a daze.
"What's wrong, Mengning?" Fang Qiong asked curiously.
"Auntie, I passed the interview. Shengyu Corporation called me and asked me to complete the employment procedures," Mengning said, patting her face. "I really did it. I thought I didn't stand a chance."
During the interview, she had been humiliated by the interviewer, so she had truly given up hope.
This call was an absolute surprise.
"Really?" Fang Qiong was overjoyed to hear that Mengning was going to work in their own company. It seemed that Mengning held a significant place in her nephew's heart, or he wouldn't have arranged for her to work in the family company.
Mengning quickly shared the good news with Fu Tingxiu and texted Qin Huan as well.
Except for Mengning herself, everyone else knew this was a foregone conclusion and wasn't surprised. Qin Huan, upon learning Mengning had a medical examination tomorrow, was worried and suggested accompanying her to the hospital.
Fu Tingxiu had an engagement that evening and texted Mengning to have dinner first and not wait for him. Mengning and Fang Qiong prepared a table full of dishes, but Mengning felt a bit disappointed upon hearing that Fu Tingxiu wouldn't be joining them for dinner. She didn't show it though, knowing Fu Tingxiu was busy.
Mengning and Fang Qiong had their meal together and chatted about shows until ten o'clock before Fang Qiong returned to her own room. Fu Tingxiu didn't return until eleven o'clock that night, by which time Mengning had already fallen asleep.
There was watermelon on the coffee table, and Mengning left a note: "Remember to eat the watermelon, it won't be good overnight." Fu Tingxiu peeled off the note, his lips curling slightly. Despite already feeling full from drinking, he sat down and ate it, looking at the words and smiley face on the note.
After finishing the watermelon, Fu Tingxiu's stomach felt uncomfortable and he had diarrhea shortly after. He didn't know how many times he had to run to the bathroom that night and felt a bit drained. Near dawn, he got up to find medicine and ended up falling asleep on the living room sofa.
The next morning, Mengning walked out of her room to find Fu Tingxiu asleep on the sofa, which surprised her. Seeing that he hadn't woken up, she tiptoed over. It was the first time she had seen this man asleep. His sharp and chiseled features, with a hint of coldness, thick brows, a high nose bridge, and slightly pursed lips—all of it was so handsome. Mengning couldn't help but reach out to touch his nose bridge when suddenly, Fu Tingxiu abruptly opened his eyes, and the two locked gazes...
