Cheng Yu's breath sprayed on my face, and I could smell the tobacco scent emanating from him. Instinctively, I took a step back, but he pulled me in close, tightly holding my waist.
"Don't move!" he said hoarsely.
"No!" I pushed against his chest, pursed my lips, and said, "We have to leave soon."
After I finished, I heard a muffled chuckle from Cheng Yu above me. The laugh made his chest tremble as he looked down at me with lowered gaze and said, "I was just noticing some stray hairs, wanted to fix it for you, what were you thinking?"
Those eyes seemed to see right through everything, yet held a trace of amusement. My cheeks flamed red, and I took a deep breath, ducked out from under his arm, and said, "I wasn't thinking anything, we really have to go."
I hurried ahead, only starting to calm down once I was out the door.
Dealing with the ladies of the political scene, I could always keep my cool, no matter what they said, I had a knack for fast thinking on my feet.
