Tokyo's Shinigami was a yakuza gang that terrorized every neighborhood in Tokyo. In recent years, it had been discovered that the Shinigami was involved in large-scale gambling and debt collection schemes, as well as human trafficking and illegal sex trade. The Tokyo Human Trafficking Ring was one of its most hideous operations. If someone owed them too much debt and couldn't pay it back, they suggested that humans could be used as currency as well. That was how they lured young, innocent girls and children into brothels and other similar services.
Yumi's family was also one of its victims. She was so terrified of them, to the point that just mentioning the gang name would trigger a panic attack.
