I must have lain there screaming into my pillow for about five minutes before a knock came at the door. "Hey, Fern can I come in?" It was Ben. I pried my face away from my now moist pillow put on my slippers and shuffled slowly towards the door. I slowly turned the door handle and pulled it open. As I did ben fell through the doorway and landed on the floor by my feet. "Ow, I was leaning on that." I just laughed and went to help him up, but he was already up. "What do you want?" I said to him as he was dusting himself off. "Oh angry. I just wanted to say I had nothing to do with this, and that really hurt just then when I fell through the door, ow." He said rolling his shoulder and pulling funny faces I couldn't help but laugh, he started laughing too. "I think it will be kind of fun if you came over for a bit, just like when we were younger." Ben said once he sat down on my bed. 'Yeah, I suppose, but I want to help them, how are they supposed to find my Mum and Dad without me?' I thought but I didn't say, instead I said nothing I just started crying, Ben got up and walked over to me and opened his arms and I just fell into them "I know." He said as he gently rubbed my back.
It took me about five minutes to stop and get my breathing normal, when I had accomplished this, I said, "I'm sorry about that." He said nothing for a while, just kept hugging me, then finally he said, "Its ok, I understand how you're feeling I felt the same way when my mum told me my dad was dying." I looked, as he pulled away from my hug, at him we have never really talked about his dad; this was the first time. "Don't say anything to my mum she will freak and send me to every therapist she could find." I laughed meekly when he said this and finally gave in "ok", I said "I wasn't planning to." He looked at me and gave a big smile "ok that's kind of creepy." He just laughed and stopped smiling as large as he was, which made me laugh too. Ben ended up laughing so hard he fell on the floor and started to roll around, that made me laugh even harder if that was even possible. I laughed so hard that my stomach hurt so much that I couldn't help but wince a little bit. At that moment there was another knock at the door.
"Come in." we said in unison that just made us laugh more. The door handle slowly turned, and my grandma and grandpa walked in, with them in here too there was not much space left in my little room. My grandpa looked at us as we tried not to laugh, he kept looking back and forth like he was playing head tennis, this just made our semi suppressed laughter burst out again, the look my grandma gave me made me sober up a bit. "Are you ok to go to Ben's then poppet?" my grandma asked as she avoided treading on my grandpa's feet. "I'll go but I am coming over every weekend and as soon as mum and dad are found I am coming straight home." Grandpa laughed at the bluntness of what I had just said and then retorted with "we would expect nothing less from you."
