Chapter 1 - Prologue

Everything had been going well.

Or as well as life could for a neuroscience major. My once chaotic one-bedroom apartment, previously buried under papers, sticky notes, pens, and takeout boxes, was finally tidy. After my last exam, I had the time to clean up, my mind no longer consumed by the relentless demands of school.

With exams behind me, I anticipated the well-deserved rest l'd earned from days of grueling study, aiming to become a neurosurgeon.

Yet..

My eyes fluttered open, adjusting to the brightness of an unfamiliar room.

Confusion set in as I glanced around, trying to make sense of my surroundings.

The white curtains that were drawn open fluttered slightly as a cool breeze drifted in through the open door that led out to a balcony.

Where am I?

The sound of a door opening drew my attention. I sat up, leaning against a pile of pillows, and watched warily as a girl with long brown hair approached. Her lips curved into a smile when she saw I was awake.

"Rosalind, finally you're awake. I was getting worried."

The young girl said as she made her way forward, Her eyes searched my face, though I couldn't fathom what she was looking for.

Her voice, soft yet raspy, carried an unfamiliar warmth. It took a moment for me to realize she had called me another name.

"Rosalind?" I repeated quietly.

Yet the girl heard me and stepped closer, her eyes widening with concern as she took my face in her hands.

Up close, I could see how beautiful she was, with long, flowing chestnut curls framing her oval face, high cheekbones, and full lips.

Her most captivating feature was her eyes—a mesmerizing shade of emerald green that sparkled with an otherworldly light.

She was ethereal.

"Rosalind? Are you okay?"

Her soft raspy voice pulled me from my thoughts.

I l nodded absently, my gaze drifting around the room once more, still trying to comprehend my surroundings.

"I didn't think you fell that hard to lose your memories."

The beautiful girl muttered softly to herself as I got up from the big bed. She watched silently as I made my way to a large mirror in the room.

My mouth dropped open in shock. The reflection staring back at me was a stranger.

Dark black hair fell in soft waves to my shoulders, and my eyes were an impossible shade of purple.

Purple? I had purple eyes?

How could I have purple eyes?

I touched my face, pulling at my cheeks and hair, trying to make sense of the transformation.

What the heck was going on?!

"Rosalind, are you okay?"

The young girl asked softly to probably not frighten me anymore than I already was but as I turned around to respond, a large black furry creature jumped upon the bed.

A wolf?!!

And before I knew it the young girl was scrambling to catch me, when I began to fall backwards in shock.

What is going on?

Was the last thing I thought before my eyes closed, as I fainted.
