When Aileen awoke Daniel was gone.
She got up and bathed once again before dressing in a day gown.
It was blue which seemed to be the main color she wore here as it was the kingdoms colors.
As she walked the same cold halls, there was something different about it, most of the people had left after the ceremony yesterday.
Her parents and Sebastian were still here, but were to leave today. Unfortunately duty called, she felt like she hadn't gotten to spend anytime with them.
She was to head down to the dining hall to eat with her new-found family. Surprisingly, here it seemed warm, just like other random parts of the palace did. There was a fireplace here, and it brought a comforting vibe.
Daniel and the King were absent, it was only her and her mother-in-law.
They chatted for a while and then Aileen went to go look for her parents.
She visited the garden as she thought she might find them there.
Her mother and father were there lovingly holding onto each other and for just a split second Aileen felt envy, because she'd never have that.
"Mother, father." They turned to her smiling.
"Good morning darling, how does it feel to be newly-wed."
Aileen forced a smile, "Like something I'm gonna have to get used to."
They laughed.
"We have to leave today, I wish we would have gotten to have more time together."
"Yeah me too."
"Did you know Sebastian is leaving at about any moment now?"
"Oh... Is he, I didn't get to see him anytime last night, um, I think I should go, go and say goodbye."
They nodded and Aileen slowly backed away before getting to the door and taking off.
She was running through the halls towards the main doors when she found Sebastian staring at a painting in the hall.
He had a look of sorrow in his eyes.
Aileen was breathless from running, but she had stopped and seemed to be waiting for him to notice.
And then he did.
She gave a small wave.
They walked to each other.
"So... You are leaving today?"
"Yes, I must get back to my royal duties." He joked.
Aileen smiled and then she asked him the question they both seemed to want to talk about.
" Seb... What are we?"
He sighed and grabbed her hand, staring at the ring on her finger a little too long.
"We... we are two people who missed our chance to be together in this lifetime..."
Aileen felt a lump form in her throat.
"Will I see you again?"
Sebastian had teared up as well.
"I don't know Lina... Not for a while at least... I don't think I could... It just is going to take some time."
His green eyes glimmered and it seemed to be all that she was holding onto.
"But you're my best friend... You're my..." She trailed off.
He nodded as if he understood.
And then he was outside, his things being put into the carriage. And Aileen stood next to Daniel, her in-laws were busy.
Her mother and father were also leaving.
They hugged her goodbye and bid farewell to Daniel, and then they rode away.
Sebastian was the only one left.
After getting the signal that they were ready to go he turned to Aileen.
He knew the face she made when she was trying not to cry.
He hugged her, as if it would be the last time he could.
She buried her face into his shoulder, but too soon he had to pull back. He kissed her forehead and said goodbye.
He shook Daniel's hand, and then he turned. With one last look at Aileen, he stepped into the carriage, the door closing and riding away.
Aileen turned and began walking away, she wanted to flee away to her room.
But as she nearly broke out in a run down the hallway, Daniel had come after her.
He grabbed her arm.
"Wait."
She turned doing her best to hide her tears.
"What" she said.
"I just wanted to ask you if you were okay..."
She was astounded for a second. "What?"
"Well these are things we learn in life... To let go of the people we love... You'll be okay."
He let go of her, and walked away leaving her there in confusion.
