Chapter 3 - Shelter

The night was thick and oppressive, the darkness only broken by the eerie glow of the system prompts hovering in the air. Sun Han stood amidst the chaos, still trying to process the prompts and his new abilities when a sudden commotion nearby caught his attention. The sounds of screams and violent clashes echoed through the night, drawing his gaze to a group of people engaged in a brutal battle.

His eyes widened as he saw a man with jet-black hair standing tall and imposing under the dim starlight. With a casual wave of his hand, the man cut a fellow human in two, the sheer force of his attack leaving Sun Han in shock. Blood sprayed the ground, and the severed body crumpled lifelessly.

Nearby, a white-haired boy who seemed to be around 17 years old was kicking a mutated dog. As the beast's body made contact with the boy's foot, it instantly turned to ice. Without hesitation, the boy raised his hand toward a terrified human bystander, and an ice spike shot out, piercing the person's heart. The victim fell, eyes wide with fear and pain, blood pooling around them in the moonlight.

Not far from this gruesome scene, a middle-aged bald man laughed maniacally as he punched a hole through another human's chest. The man's cruel laughter echoed through the darkness, sending chills down Sun Han's spine.

The sheer brutality and the evident power of these individuals made Sun Han's blood run cold. He knew he had to get away, to find a safe place where he could establish his shelter and regroup. Turning on his heel, he ran as fast as his legs could carry him, putting as much distance as possible between himself and the carnage.

As he sprinted through the desolate landscape under the starry sky, he scanned the horizon for a suitable spot to set up his base.

In the distance, he spotted a flat, treeless plain. It seemed isolated enough to provide some safety. With determination, he headed towards it, his heart pounding in his chest from both exertion and fear.

Upon reaching the plain, Sun Han quickly took out the level 1 basic house from his inventory. The holographic screen appeared in front of him, offering him two options:

"Do you wish to have an underground house or a land house?"

He paused, contemplating his choices. A land house might be easier to access and modify, but it would also be more exposed to the dangers of this world. An underground house, on the other hand, would provide more security and concealment. Given the recent violent display he had witnessed, the decision seemed clear.

"I choose an underground house," he said firmly.

The screen confirmed his selection, and he watched in awe as the ground before him began to shift and move. The earth parted and molded itself into an entrance, leading down into what would become his new home. Sun Han stepped forward, taking a deep breath before descending into the subterranean shelter.

The underground house was modest but well-constructed. The walls were reinforced with sturdy materials, providing a sense of security that he desperately needed. There was a single room with basic amenities-a small bed, a table, and a storage area. It wasn't much, but it was a start.

As he settled in, the reality of his situation began to sink in. He was in a brutal, unforgiving world where survival was the only objective. The image of the black-haired man, the white-haired boy, and the bald man haunted his thoughts. He knew he had to get stronger, to upgrade his shelter and his abilities if he wanted to survive as he unexpectedly fell a sleep on the cold ground.
