Chapter 94 - Fire Element

These were some of the most basic materials in Potioncraft. Of course, many magical materials were beyond Freyr's reach and not available in the town's shops; they could only be occasionally bought from adventuring teams or through the Wizard Guild. However, the Wizard Guild wasn't open to outsiders. Only those with wizard qualifications could purchase anything from the guild.

"I've prepared all the basic plants... As for the rest, we'll have to buy them from the Wizard Guild. You know the rules there; only you can make the purchase. As for the money... Don't worry, we'll have it soon. We're going to have plenty of money soon."

Ryan silently looked at the materials in front of him.

He was already very satisfied!

To an ordinary person, wizard experiments were akin to burning money!

Those precious materials could be completely wasted or destroyed in a single failed experiment.

In the past, Ryan didn't have enough money to buy these materials for his experiments. Many of his materials were accumulated "secretly" from his former teacher. Additionally, he had to work for adventuring teams, earning money, or obtaining magic creature cores.

Now, with the promise of this young noble, he wouldn't have to worry about money anymore. He could freely conduct any experiments he wanted!

Freyr held considerable expectations for Ryan.

This guy had actually managed to research a method to simulate magic... He could truly be considered a genius! Who knew what else he might discover if he continued his research?

"Oh, by the way, let me see what you brought back from your laboratory in the south!"

Compared to Freyr's new lab, the items Ryan brought were much more modest.

He had brought a few bottles and jars... half of which were made of clay, showing that this financially strapped wizard couldn't afford the nice glassware.

These jars contained various magical elements that Ryan had extracted... primarily fire elements.

Specifically, the "yellow powder" that Ryan had mentioned.

Freyr was most interested in this "fire element."

With Ryan's permission, he carefully opened one of the jars, revealing the "yellow powder" inside.

The moment he saw these things and caught that familiar scent... Freyr froze!

He couldn't resist pinching a bit of the powder between his fingers and bringing it close to his nose for a sniff...

"This is your 'fire element'?" Freyr turned and looked at Ryan seriously.

"...Yes."

Suppressing his inner excitement, Freyr slowly asked, "How quickly can you produce this stuff?"

"Well, it depends on the raw materials. The main ingredient is the powder of fire scale grass, but it needs to be refined six times, and the process has to be very careful, with no fire around... I almost got burned to death in an accident once."

"If I provide you with sufficient materials?"

Ryan thought for a moment and calculated, "I think, with enough materials, I could produce three bottles a day."

Three bottles?

The bottles Ryan referred to were about the size of beer bottles that Freyr knew from his past life.

Three bottles a day... that was a decent speed.

Freyr suppressed a laugh and suddenly hugged Ryan tightly. "My magic advisor... I am very pleased with your fire element... I'm going to give you a raise! As soon as I have the money! Hahaha..."

After a pause, Freyr whispered, "Listen, we must keep the formula for this fire element absolutely secret! Understand?"

"Of course!" Ryan quickly answered.

The laboratory was temporarily handed over to Ryan. He busied himself inside, arranging the bottles and jars he had brought along with his crude tools: several large pots, some refining jars, and various burning apparatuses.

Freyr walked out alone.

The two servants following him noticed their young master couldn't stop smiling.

Freyr walked quite a distance before he finally let his emotions out and burst into laughter.

His laughter was filled with joy and excitement, as if unlimited gold coins had suddenly fallen from the sky, landing exclusively in his pocket!

"Hahahaha... Fire element? It's clearly gunpowder! Haha, I actually have gunpowder!!"

Unexpectedly obtaining gunpowder... what could he do with it in this world?

Make guns and cannons? Lead an era of change, pushing this age of cold weapons into the age of hot weapons all at once?

What a joke!

Freyr wasn't foolish enough to think that having gunpowder would enable him to create hot weapons. First, what would he do with weapons? Stage a coup? Wage war? Freyr had no interest in such matters. Second, was making hot weapons that easy? Forget guns and cannons... After the Chinese invented gunpowder, it took centuries before they used it for more than just fireworks.

Hot weapons weren't that easy to create. Be it guns or cannons, even the simplest gun barrel was beyond Freyr's capability.

Moreover, this was a magical world! In this world, even if you had guns and cannons, they wouldn't necessarily be as useful as magic.

A basic low-level wizard, as long as they knew how to fly using wind magic and could cast a simple fireball spell...

Just such a low-level wizard, flying and dropping fireballs, could be considered a human-shaped Apache attack helicopter!

In such a scenario, would crude cannons made with some gunpowder offer any advantage?

What was the point of having gunpowder?

Freyr's thinking was simple: to make money!

As he adapted more and more to this world, Freyr, who had mischievously created the McDonald's Fleet and the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Nemo... was gradually starting to take a proactive interest in this world.

An interest beyond just magic.
