Chapter 29 - The Shocking Truth

Since he, a talentless person, had found some way to learn magic… if he could reveal how he did it… perhaps Freyr could too!

If he could find a way to learn magic, then…

The secret astrology chambers in the castle, the stellar magic Natalie spent her life researching, could be learned!

"Mastering Potioncraft, does that make one a Wizard?" Freyr looked at the captive. "But as far as I know, the qualification assessment for Potioners is entirely different from that of other Wizards."

On the continent, true Wizards are divided into ten levels. With each level of examination passed, the difficulty increases significantly! Therefore, the higher the level of the Wizard, the stronger they are.

However, the assessment for Potioners, who are also considered a type of Wizard, is much simpler.

So simple that it seems almost perfunctory!

The assessment for Potioners has no levels! There is only one level!

As long as you pass the assessment, you are a Potioner! The magic society will then issue you a badge, signifying official recognition as a Wizard.

Though, this recognition is not widely accepted.

Even the magic society itself issues badges with a degree of "discrimination"!

Potioners receive a copper round badge, crudely made and without any magical anti-counterfeiting spells.

Perhaps the magic society knows that few people would be interested in impersonating such a poorly regarded profession.

A Potioner, commonly known as a poisoner, holds a lower social status than even an ordinary physician.

In contrast, a true Wizard, even a level one Wizard, receives a silver badge! A level one Wizard gets a silver leaf badge.

Freyr would never forget that in the tavern battle, the badge he confiscated from this Wizard captive was a genuine silver leaf badge!

This means he did not pass the Potioner assessment but the true Wizard assessment!!

How did he manage that?

The dream of learning magic, which had once seemed shattered, now reignited a flicker of hope in Freyr's heart.

"My talent lies in my strong magical power, with a mental strength slightly superior to that of ordinary people. For an ordinary person, this might manifest as having more energy and not getting tired easily… But I lacked sensitivity. No matter how much I meditated or how hard I tried initially, I couldn't sense even the slightest fluctuation of natural forces." The captive Wizard continued slowly, "Later, after ten years of studying Potioncraft, I suddenly had a question… What exactly is this so-called natural force? My master told me it is everything! It is everything in this world! It is wind, it is fire, it is water, it is even the smallest speck. But this explanation was still too vague. A thought occurred to me… If I could understand what this 'natural force' really is, then perhaps I still had a chance."

Freyr listened quietly, carefully contemplating the captive's words.

"For example, fire magic. A Wizard can use spells to harness the fire elements in the natural world, allowing them to conjure flames! In Potioncraft, there are also numerous ways to create fire using potions! For instance, the simplest method…" At this point, the Wizard captive glanced at Freyr. "Do you understand what I'm saying?"

"Please, continue. I understand," Freyr smiled faintly. "I've read some books on Potioncraft."

"Alright." The Wizard continued, "In Potioncraft, there are many ways to achieve the same basic principles as fire magic… creating fire! For example, the simplest method is using a powder ground from fire phosphorous grass, which can ignite by itself! So I thought… fire phosphorous grass can create fire, and a Wizard's fire magic can create fire. Could it be… that fire phosphorous grass contains the so-called magical elements of the natural force? Or perhaps, the fire phosphorous grass contains something that is the element of fire magic?"

A spark went off in Freyr's mind, but he couldn't quite grasp it yet.

The Wizard captive continued, "I noticed something subtle. All magic spells! I mean all of them! Though the power of the incantations varies. Take fire magic, for example—the simplest fireball spell and the legendary 'Inferno Annihilation' spell, which can destroy cities, differ vastly in power, but fundamentally, they work on the same principle! Both use flames to burn! However… here's the subtlety… everything that can be done with magic can also be done with Potioncraft! For instance, fire magic, although Potioncraft can't achieve the large-scale, devastating power of something like 'Inferno Annihilation', the basic principle of creating fire is the same! The same goes for wind magic, water magic, and so on… Every type of magic can be achieved with Potioncraft! Though only the simplest basic principles, it can still be done! Why is that? Perhaps… I began to think that maybe the precious raw materials used in Potioncraft actually contain the so-called 'magical elements' of the various types of magic! Don't you think so?"

The captive's face showed a trace of pride. "Since I couldn't extract magical elements from nature through meditation… I decided to use a Potioner's method to extract magical elements from potions!"

Genius! This guy is undoubtedly a genius in magical research! Freyr had already formed an evaluation of the Wizard captive before him. If allowed to continue his research, this guy might one day become a pioneering master!

However, what concerned Freyr the most right now was how to use Potioncraft to wield magic.

The Wizard, having mentioned the fruits of his painstaking research, couldn't help but feel excited. Though he had previously had to hide his achievements, unable to share the greatest success of his life with anyone, which was somewhat regrettable, he now spoke without hesitation. His eyes gleamed with pride, and he gestured animatedly in his excitement:
