Gwen came down from the helicopter with Darren assisting her. August ran round the frontyard of Darren's building.
Darren led them both into his apartment, though he had a stern look on his face, his heart was literally leaping. Gwen smiled when he ushered her in.
"Wow popsicle man your home is huge" August yelled brightly.
"Hmm.. it is?" Darren looked round his apartment, he did ask for a small apartment when he arrived in the country. Gwen stood beside one of his elegant chairs. She was marvelled by how unique the interior design of Darren's home was.
"Let me get water for you both, just feel at home" Darren walked over to the kitchen while August ran to his mother and sat beside her. His hanging legs swung back and forth on the couch.
Gwen had a flushed face as she could hear Darren's word echoing in her ear. "Feel at home"
"Mommy, Popsicle man is rich" Gwen turned to her naive little boy, her hand rubbed his head softly.
"You can say that" Gwen chuckled. Picking her phone from her pocket, she dialed Jesse's number. "Hello Jess"
Jesse stood by the window watching the crowd of newscasters demanding an audience with her boss. The huge elegant glass door of Gwendolyn's empire was presently locked and inside was the staff, praying they'd all be able to go home.
"What's going on?"
"It's quite serious Miss, they are demanding an audience with you, though I've turned them down, thy still aren't satisfied" Jesse voice cracked a little.
Gwen sighed tiredly "call the police"
Jess gasped "but Miss, the top biggest newscasting companies are here, are you sure..."
"Are you planning on spending the night in the plaza, listen call the police and sue them in my name" Gwen sighed heavily.
Darren sat beside Gwen and handed a glass of water to her. August ran to him and jumped on his laps.
"Okay Miss, I'll do just that" Jess saluted with a determined look on her face. Gwen hung up and turned to Darren and August who were literally playing. It wasn't everyday you find Darren smile, but today he was literally playing with August.
Gwen's eyes widened and a meekly goddess smile drew across her face.
"Mommy can we spend the night with Popsicle man?" August question was like a bomb landing on a war field. Gwen's cheeks flushed while Darren's ears reddened. The last time Gwen spent a night with Darren, August was the outcome.
Gwen cleared her throat and shook her head lightly. "Emm?" She tried to figure out words and an excuse. She followed Darren cause she was a little bit in her rebellious mode. She didn't plan to spend the night. "Let's not inconvenience him okay baby"
August clung unto Darren's neck and rested his head on his chest. "But popsicle man isn't complaining, I think he wants us to stay"
Darren's face flushed, it was almost as if the boy read his mind. Gwen cleared her throat and smiled. "It's alright, it wouldn't be bad if I had a friend or two around"
August giggled brightly and snuggled his head in Darren's body the more.
"Ohhh, I guess it's fine by me but then we didn't quite plan to spend the night" Gwen added
"Don't worry about that, I can get some clothes"
"Really??" Light beamed in August's eyes, he could hardly control himself whenever he's around popsicle man.
Gwen slapped her face lightly and sighed. "That won't be necessary, but knowing you, you're not going to back down"
"That's my secret weapon" he smiled dashingly causing her cheeks to burn.
"Mommy, your face is red" August only made it worst, Gwen's body heated and added more red pigment to her face. Darren smiled
"Popsicle man, you too"
The atmosphere turned akward, Darren loosened his tie as heat radiated round his body.
"It's hot today" Gwen quickly intervened.
A few hours later.
GWEN'S POV
I stared at the pajamas I wore, it was pale red in color with white laces. Though it didn't expose any part of me, I still felt vulnerable.
I turned to the guest room in Darren's home. It was huge at least by a few feets smaller than mine. It had a faint scent of Darren lingering everywhere. I could only imagine how good his room would smell.
"Gwendolyn compose yourself" i slapped my cheeks.
"Mommy" I turned to the door where Augie's little head was peeking through. "Popsicle man says it's time for dinner"
I've never seen August this excited for dinner. Even my mom's cooking didn't make him jump this much. He pulled my hand and dragged me out of the room. I felt nervous all of sudden, was it because of the pajamas? I doubt. But I was still nervous, I felt like a mascot in this pajamas, it was way too big, would Darren like it. I turned to August whose oversized blue pajamas still looked good on him.
"Did Dar-popsicle man say any nice things about your pj's?" Why was I asking my five year old son such a stupid question.
"Yes, he said I look cool" August eyes glimmered, I wish I had his zeal and confidence right now.
THIRD PERSON POV
Darren served dinner with shaking hands, it's been so long yet Gwen still had the dame effect on him. He looked at the meal he had watched a ton of YouTube videos to prepare. He felt like trashing and starting over.
He unbuttoned his shirt a little bit, though the air conditioner was on, and the room was cool he still felt like he was standing beside a volcano. "Damn it" he cursed under his breath and closed his eyes.
"It's fine"
He turned to the footsteps echoing in the large living room, he couldn't keep still when he saw Gwen. He had purposely ordered a plus size for Gwen to avoid his mind running wild. "Who I'm I kidding?" He sighed helplessly and removed his apron flinging it to a chair in his marble dinning.
Gwen prayed to God to steady her mind, she wasn't sure if it was her stomach or something else that was actually hungry.
'Gwendolyn compose yourself' she yelled internally.
"Hi" Darren started in the most awkward way ever. Gwen smiled nervously and helped August sit, she took her seat right after.
"Popsicle man, your food looks delicious" August drooled on the meal on the table.
"Thank you, accept it as my little gift" Darren smiled and glanced at Gwen, she had her eyes on a certain plate. He smiled triumphantly and cleared his throat. "Let's dig in"
Mrs Katherine sat on a huge couch facing the glass wall in the room. The room was dark with only a table lamp to lit up the place Katherine sat. Her eyes were deadpan, she had been scrolling through her phone the whole day. Her jaw twitched in anger with every word she read.
"Elizabeth" she hummed to Elizabeth who stood beside the couch.
"Yes ma'am" Elizabeth had sweat rolling down her face, she glued her eyes to her feet, trying her best not to sprint.
"What is this I'm reading?" Katherine asked in an oblivious tone that was no where near her grim expression.
"I'm as surprised as you are Mrs Everest" she studdered, she was never this way around Mrs Katherine, except for special occasions.
Katherine sighed heavily and turned to the girl "you know what to do, so do it" she hissed harshly and turned to the scenery outside the wall.
DARREN'S OFFICE
Mikel walked ahead of Grey, he could only wonder why the man decided to visit.
He had seen him with Mrs Gwendolyn a few times but it's a little bit out of the blue for him to visit his Boss.
All the female staff that passed by Grey all looked entranced by the man's beauty and aura. Grey had a stoic look on his face, he felt his anger increasing with every step he took. When he read the headline yesterday he contain his anger. It hadn't been a month since this guy showed up and he had already made a big impact in Gwen's life. He decided today was the day he was going to confront Darren.
Mikel opened the single door that stood tall at the end of the hallway. Grey walked in after Mikel, his eyes glanced round the office. It was quite big.
"Sir you have a visitor" Mikel bowed to Darren and directed grey to a seat infront of Darren's table.
Darren turned to Grey with arched brows.
"Why are you here?"
"Came to talk" Grey answered. His pitch was gruff, he was literally suppressing the urge to punch Darren. Darren turned to Mikel and ushered him to leave.
Once the door closed, the atmosphere became tense and cold. It was as if two beast were locked in a cage to fight to the death. Darren knew the man in front of him had feelings for Gwen, though Gwen didn't show any hidden feeling for the man. It still annoyed him whenever he sees him.
"Speak"
A vein popped on Grey's jaw. Sighing he started. "I really don't care who you might be to Mrs Gwendolyn but I'd appreciate it if you left her life for good"
Darren's face twitched. "You might be the father to her son but that doesn't mean you force yourself into her life" Grey relaxed on his seat like a boss, "it's too toxic for a woman you abandoned" a muscle flexed on Darren's jaw.
" I've heard a lot from your college days and they aren't pretty, though you were top in academics, you were unstable and violent. Don't influence Gwen with your unhealthy lifestyle. She has a son too, I doubt you would want your son to have such aggressive behavior"
Darren's eyes hallowed and deepened. He looked angry and thirsty for blood but deep down he questioned a few of his actions, not that he was going to fall weak in front of a pebble like this man. He relaxed on his seat and let out a heavy sigh. Turning to Grey he scrutinized him with his eyes.
"Harris Grey, supermodel, entrepreneur, and the third son of the Grey family" Darren stated like a poem. "The only reason why I haven't crushed that little pride your family holds today is because you happen to be an important business partner to my Gwen" resting his head on his hand he smiled coldly.
"Don't push your luck, Boy"
