Gwen stood in front the masterpiece crafted by her own hands. Her heart was leaping with joy and her stomach churned in nervousness. The fashion week had finally arrived and she was already done with her collection.
Jesse stood behind her ogling at all the designs worn by the manikins arranged in a straight line. She was beyond ecstatic when she saw a design of her own standing on the same platform as her boss's. It also had her personal logo on it.
"It's beautiful Miss" Jesse sighed out like a kid that had just found candy. Gwen turned to her with a mild smile.
"Thank you" she said and sat a couch, fanning herself. "I just hope it cuts it" her phone rang and she picked it immediately "good afternoon Mr Grey"
She almost choked on her words when she heard a growl. "Mr Grey?"
"Good day Mrs Gwendolyn" Grey was boiling inside from jealousy, he had already planned to ask her about the news. But how?
His mind couldn't lay to rest ever since he visited Darren, his words still echoed in Grey's head. What pissed him off was the part he said "my Gwen"
He was at least glad that they'd both be spend a full week away with each other on the island. "You ready for the big day up ahead?"
"Nope but I don't have a choice" Gwen sighed.
"I've already made accommodations for you at the island so be rest assured, I've got you covered" Gwen nodded and a smile creeped on her face.
"Thank you Grey" Jesse felt a sting in her chest when she saw her boss smile. She felt as if she was choking from jealousy. Why was her boss so lucky in every way?
"I'd be attending the event alongside Jesse I hope you aren't bothered" Gwen added after, replacing Jesse jealousy with warmth and guilt.
"Not at all" he replied. Jesse felt giddy inside, she felt like jumping like a kid but then again her hopes died down. Even if she attended the event with her boss, she wouldn't have a chance to spend with Mr Grey alone. She could recall the countless times she called him but he rejected her calls.
She turned to her boss who had just finished talking to Grey, she was beyond jealous at the beauty, confidence and luck, the fact that her boss had such a lovely life. Why wasn't she that lucky? After all, they both got pregnant out of wedlock.
"Jesse?" Gwen turned to Jesse with an arched brow. "Are you okay?"
"Yes ma'am" she studdered "I'm just a little bit nervous"
"I know right" Gwen sighed and stood up from the couch, she walked to the door and took one last glance at her collection. "Pray it cuts it"
An employee walked towards her and whispered something in her ears. Gwen nodded and hastened her steps towards her office. Opening the door she found her handsome brother sitting on her chair with a frown and folded arms.
"George" Gwen gasped. George had a deep frown on his face. He stood up and walked up to her, inspecting her body like a medical personnel.
"What are you doing?" Gwen could hold back her laughter.
"Did Mr hot stuff do anything ungodly?" He asked while inspecting her wrist. Gwen's face flushed and her eyes widened.
"No!" She yelled, George stared at her eyes for a while before nodding and hugging her.
"I missed you, leaving the mansion so quickly, I couldn't even say goodbye" he buried his face in her shoulder, Gwen rubbed his back gently.
"There there, baby George" she chuckled. "I missed you too" he finally left her and led her to a couch. "How's Mom?"
George arched his brow and cleared his throat "fine, but I doubt you're suppose to ask that"
"What I'm I suppose to be asking?" Gwen rolled her eyes.
"How has home been since I stormed off on my lover's helicopter " George replied "Dad has become more stoic than before and Mom is a little bit tired of his daily tantrums"
Gwen nodded slowly and turned to the door "do you want anything to eat or drink at least?" She completely ignored what he had said and smiled at him broadly.
George sighed heavily and smiled back "nah I'm good, how are you preparing for fashion week?"
"Fine I guess, still have to get ready for the long week trip and also August, he's resuming soon and damn it alot" Gwen sighed.
"You can leave August to me" George offered but Gwen shook her head.
"He'll be staying with his Dad while I'm away" the words sank into George's head.
"What?!!!!" George yelled in annoyance "but he always stays with me and Mom every year"
"Well things are different this year and I know Mom will understand" Gwen brushed off her brother's gaze and smiled reassuringly. "I want August to know his father, you know get closer to him"
"You want to get married to this guy don't you?" George folded his arms and slumped back on the couch.
"Yes, yes I do" Gwen smiled, she wasn't going to deny the earnest prayer in her heart. She didn't know what was the possible outcome of all this but she felt certain that she would finally be with Darren.
"Whatever" George scoffed and stared at the window "just so you know, if anything happens to my Augie they'll be blood"
Gwen sighed and pat his back "be rest assured that won't be necessary"
George turned to her, watching his sister smile this brightly made him warm and cozy inside. He really didn't trust this Everest guy but if he could make his sister keep smiling then George truly has nothing to be scared of.
GWEN'S HOUSE
August kept jumping and singing rhymes while I packed his things. He was more excited when I told him he'd be spending a week with Darren.
Normally August would wail and throw tantrums whenever I leave. I didn't expect him to be this happy.
"I'll teach popsicle man how to make biscuits and then we'll play hide and seek like we do right mommy" he kept yapping and yapping.
"Yes you can do all of those things" I replied, checking the time on my phone I hurriedly picked the last items he needs and zipped his bag. "All done"
"Yeyyyyyyy" August ran downstairs with his black boots in his hand. I tailed behind him with his bag and also mine. There was long week ahead of me and I wasn't feeling too good, well let's say I was nervous and scared.
We got into the car and drove off from my home. August giggled and stared at the buildings we passed. "I can't wait to meet popsicle man"
I feel like I should caution him about that name but then again I enjoy it. It was an hour and half drive to Darren's place, once we got there I horned out loud waiting for him to open the gate.
"Took you long enough" I drove in once the gate was open. Darren's compound was as neat as ever. Somehow I felt sad I was the one traveling.
Darren walked out the front door, he wore a white pants and a big polo shirt. His hair fell over his face and covered a part of his neck. August jumped down from the car and raced towards him.
"Popsicle man" he picked August up and hugged him gently.
"How are you?" Darren rubbed his head gently andade his way towards me who was literally trying to get August luggage out of the car.
"Fine, I made a lot of paper toys since the last time..."
"Need a hand" i could hear Darren's voice behind me, I was inches away from his warmth.
"I'm good" I pulled out the blue bag and sighed. "Here you go" Darren stretched out one had and held it.
"How long are you going to be away?" Darren asked calmly.
"A week, normally I spend 5 days due to August" I turned to August who was playing with Darren's hair.
Darren stared at me with a glint in his eyes. He looked like he had something to say but couldn't say it. "alright, I'll be with the boy till you come back"
"Yes" I rubbed August's cheeks and tiptoed to place a kiss on his forehead. "Be good boy okay"
"I will" August replied and hugged Darren's neck.
Gwen drove out of Darren's residence and straight to the airport. Jesse had already arrived and hour early to the flight. She was ecstatic, this was the first time she was attending the fashion display event.
"Jesse" her heart leaped in joy when she heard Mr Grey call her name.
"Good evening Mr Grey" she bowed deeply and tucked a few strands of her hair to the side.
"Where's your boss?" She felt a sharp pain in her chest when he didn't reply to her greeting.
"She isn't here yet" Jesse replied calmly, she could see the displeased look on Grey's face when she said her boss hadn't arrived.
"Where is Gwendolyn this time?"
"Hi guys" they turned to the entrance of the airport, there she was dressed in a cream sweater and blue jeans. "Sorry for keeping you guys waiting"
Grey had lost all zeal to be angry, he had originally planned to be shrewd and a little bit strict with Gwen but right now he had no intention of doing such.
"Good evening Gwen" he smiled warmly and adjusted his jacket.
"Good evening Grey" Gwen smiled at him and then at Jesse who was secretly glaring at her.
"Good evening Jesse" she rubbed Jesse hair gently and sighed. "Are we ready?"
"Yes we are" Jesse nodded sharply.
"Good let's go" the three walked towards the departure section.
