Kaito felt a knot in his stomach upon seeing the scene. Without hesitation, he began to approach the alley, keeping his senses alert. The drunk men didn't notice Kaito's presence, continuing their aggressive behavior.
"Hey, you two!" Kaito called out, his voice firm and authoritative. "Leave her alone."
The men turned around, surprised by the interruption. One of them, a tall man with a scruffy beard, took a step forward, stumbling a bit. "And who are you to tell us what to do, kid?"
Kaito maintained his confident stance. "I'm someone who won't let you hurt this girl. Now, step back."
The second man, shorter and stockier, laughed disdainfully. "You think you can take us on by yourself? You'll regret getting involved."
The taller man pulled a switchblade from his pocket, the blade reflecting the dim light of the alley. He swung the blade threateningly, taking a step toward Kaito. "Let's make the hero bleed."
Before the man could react, Kaito moved with impressive speed, almost impossible to follow. In the blink of an eye, he was right in front of the man. With a quick and precise movement, Kaito delivered a powerful kick to the drunk's stomach, making him stagger back and drop the knife.
The man fell to the ground, groaning in pain, while the second drunk watched the scene with a look of surprise and fear. Kaito kept his firm stance, ready for any reaction.
"Do you want to be next?" Kaito said, his voice full of determination.
The second man hesitated, looking at his friend on the ground and then at Kaito. He shook his head, clearly scared. "No... we don't want any trouble," he stammered, taking a few steps back.
"Then get out of here," Kaito ordered, not breaking eye contact.
The stocky man helped his friend up, and together, they stumbled out of the alley, still groaning in pain. Kaito watched them until they disappeared from sight, ensuring the threat had passed.
Kaito then turned to the girl dressed as a nun, who was still leaning against the wall, visibly shaken. He approached her slowly, trying not to scare her any further.
"Are you okay?" Kaito asked, his voice soft and reassuring.
The girl looked up, still a bit scared but relieved. "Y-yes, thank you. You saved me."
Kaito smiled gently. "No need to thank me. What's your name?"
"My name is Asia. Asia Argento," she replied, her voice still trembling.
"Nice to meet you, Asia. My name is Kaito. Let's get out of here and find a safe place."
Asia nodded, following Kaito as he led her out of the alley. They walked in silence for a few minutes until they found a quiet and less crowded café. Kaito took her to a table and ordered two cups of tea.
Sitting at the table, Kaito looked at Asia, concerned. "Do you have a place to stay? Are you alone in the city?"
"I do have a place, I just don't know how to get there," Asia replied, her voice soft and a bit shaky.
Kaito nodded, understanding. "Tell me where it is, and I'll take you there."
Asia looked at Kaito with a mix of gratitude and relief. "Really? Thank God," she said, with a shy smile.
"It's a church here in Kuoh," said Asia, still a bit nervous.
Kaito frowned. "Are you sure?"
"Yes, why?" Asia asked, seeming confused by Kaito's question.
Kaito sighed, trying to find the right words. "The only church in the city has been abandoned for years."
Asia seemed even more confused and a bit worried. "But... that's where I was sent. They told me to look for that church."
Kaito tried to calm Asia, noticing the growing concern on her face. "Are you sure it's the church and not a house near the church?"
Asia frowned, looking uncertain. "Now I'm not sure..."
At that moment, the silence was interrupted by the loud and unexpected sound of Asia's stomach growling. Asia blushed deeply, clearly embarrassed by the situation.
Kaito, noticing Asia's embarrassment, smiled gently. "Looks like you're hungry. I'll order a slice of cake for you."
Asia quickly raised her hand, trying to refuse. "You don't have to spend your money on me, Kaito. I'm fine."
Kaito shook his head, determined. "I insist, Asia. You need to eat something."
He waved to the waitress and ordered a slice of cake for Asia. While they waited, Kaito tried to keep the conversation light to reassure Asia.
"So, Asia, where are you from?" Kaito asked, trying to get to know the girl better.
Asia smiled shyly, still a bit embarrassed. "I'm from Italy. I arrived here recently."
Kaito nodded, interested. "It must be a big cultural shock. I hope you're adjusting well."
The waitress arrived with the slice of cake, placing it in front of Asia. "Here you go. Enjoy."
Asia looked at the cake with gratitude and then at Kaito. "Thank you, Kaito. You're very kind."
Kaito smiled, nodding. "No need to thank me. Eat and feel better. We'll figure out how to get you where you need to go afterward."
As Asia ate the cake, Kaito couldn't help but notice the calm that settled over her. Watching her, he felt something different, a sense of peace and comfort that he had never experienced before. It was as if Asia's presence brought a tranquility that not even his mother or anyone else could provide.
Asia looked up from the cake and smiled shyly at Kaito. "Thank you, Kaito. I really needed this."
Kaito smiled back, feeling a warmth in his chest. "No need to thank me, Asia. I'm happy to help."
As they continued to talk, Kaito noticed that Asia had a special glow. There was something about her that seemed to radiate kindness and purity, something that made him feel good around her. It was a comforting feeling, as if he was where he was meant to be.
Kaito realized it was getting very late, and the café was starting to empty out. He looked at Asia, still worried about the idea of leaving her alone in the city at this hour.
"Asia, it's getting late," Kaito said, trying to sound as gentle as possible. "You don't seem to have a safe place to stay. How about spending the night at my house? You can sleep in my room, and I'll sleep on the couch in the living room."
Asia's eyes widened, visibly surprised and a bit hesitant. "I... I can't accept, Kaito. You've already done so much for me today."
Kaito smiled, trying to reassure her. "Don't worry, Asia. My parents are home, and they'll understand. It's just for one night, until we find a better solution tomorrow."
Asia began to cry silently, tears streaming down her face as she tried to speak. "I... I've never met anyone as kind as you, Kaito. You're a real angel. God must have placed you in my life."
Kaito felt a pang in his heart upon hearing Asia's words. He smiled gently but found the situation ironic. After all, he was a Devil, not an angel.
"No need to cry, Asia," Kaito said, his voice soft and reassuring. "Let's go home, okay? Everything will be alright."
Asia nodded, still emotional but beginning to calm down. Kaito paid the café bill, and together, they walked toward Kaito's house. Along the way, he tried to keep the conversation light, asking about Asia's life in Italy and sharing some stories about his own life.
When they arrived at Kaito's house, he opened the door and called out for his parents. "Mom, Dad, I'm home!"
Miki appeared in the living room, surprised to see Kaito accompanied by a girl. "Kaito, who is this?"
"This is Asia, Mom. She was lost and had nowhere to stay, so I thought she could spend the night here. She can sleep in my room, and I'll sleep on the couch."
Miki looked at Asia, noticing the tired and relieved expression on the girl's face. "Of course, dear. You're welcome here."
Gorou appeared shortly after, also welcoming Asia. "Any friend of Kaito is welcome in our home."
Asia smiled shyly, feeling welcomed. "Thank you, Mrs. and Mr. Hyoudou. I really appreciate it."
Miki smiled, nodding at Asia. "No need to thank us, dear. Let's get you a comfortable place to sleep."
Kaito guided Asia to his room, showing her where she could sleep. "You can stay here, Asia. If you need anything, just call."
Asia looked at Kaito, still with tears in her eyes but now out of gratitude. "Thank you, Kaito. You really are an angel."
Kaito smiled again, trying not to think about the irony of the situation. "Good night, Asia. Sleep well."
He left the room, closing the door softly behind him. As he walked toward the couch in the living room, Kaito couldn't help but reflect on the day and the special connection he felt with Asia. Even being a Devil, he knew there was something special about her kindness and purity, something that made him want to protect her at all costs.
Lying on the couch, Kaito sighed, feeling the exhaustion of the day finally catching up to him. He closed his eyes, hoping that the night would bring much-needed rest for both of them.
