Just as the battalion reached the royal troop, several men soon emerged from behind the rows of huge boulders. They wore black military attire, the uniform of the Megaris army, contrasting with the knights of the royal troop who still donned the very disguises they had used to infiltrate Barknor Fortress.
The colonel-led battalion numbered a thousand soldiers, whereas the Megaris forces were merely in the hundreds, providing Thevailes with numerical superiority. Nevertheless, Megaris's army was famed for their combat prowess, capable of taking on the ordinary soldiers of other kingdoms with ease. Moreover, among the allies' rescue troop were knights, elite warriors from the three allied kingdoms renowned for their battlefield valor.
It seemed that Thevailes stood little chance against their foes.
"When did Megaris's military get here? Are they not still occupied at the eastern border?" questioned the colonel.
