Chapter 4. Hard Day

I say goodbye and walk in the direction of Onelio's house, but I only do it to pretend that I am fine.

My life is a constant danger, like a bad movie. At least the plot had true love or something like that. I would accept it with all my heart. At this point, family is the reason to live and die. But...

There are things that I don't see. Am I hallucinating or something? When did I go from my house to freaking out? Well... yes.

But I am so upset and anxious that I arrived at this point. Maybe I shouldn't meet Onelio so often. He gives me weird ideas.

I would go back home but I don't want to meet Cloe. Maybe I should go to Angel... I don't want to be a problem. And what would I say?

'Hey, the organization that put you in power wants to use you as stallions for their plans. But don't worry, I just must find a very specific male for them, and I will be free. It's impossible.'

Are they trying to use me as a hostage? The excuse is so stupid it doesn't make sense. In the first place, am I important enough to be a hostage? Maybe because of my connection with Angel, but we are supposed to be allies.

Why am I so stupid? I don't know anything. I will act when the day comes. At least I have a week before the meeting. I guess that day I will be careful and do what needs to be done. If no one shows up, it's for the best. My ego will be hurt, but I will be fine.

I sighed when I was near Onelio's house. Maybe I can ask about Maria with Onelio's mom. When I was in front of the door, I heard loud noises and voices from inside.

I take my gun and notice that the door is slightly ajar. I walk slowly into the house. The voices become louder than the noises.

I reach the end of the hallway, which splits in three directions. Straight ahead are the bedrooms, to the right is the living room, and to the left is the kitchen with a corridor.

In front of me, I don't see anything. I look first into the kitchen where I don't hear voices because the people in the living room can't see me from my position.

No one.

I move silently, easily because of the cries of a woman. When I look...

Onelio is on the ground, and three men are beating him. Two women are restraining Onelio's mother, and a man is above her. I check if they have firearms. They don't seem to.

Next to them, there is a woman watching everything. She has a gun. I recognize her.

"That's funny," I mutter, and she looks at me. But I already have my gun aimed at her.

Three shots because I have bad aim. I hit her once in the throat and the rest in the chest. I fired seven shots at the group of three men. I cannot see if I killed them because the man from the other group made a move to draw a weapon.

I shoot the rest at the group. I kill the man, but one of the women is shot in the arm, and I don't have bullets for the other. I run and kick her in the face. She stays down.

The another was weak from being shot in the arm. It's easy to overpower her. One punch, then another, and another...

I get up and see the rest... No one is moving. Only Onelio's mom and is crying.

I change the magazine and put a bullet in everyone's head. I go out and check the rest of the house; no one else is there.

When I come back, Onelio's mom is still crying. She hasn't moved to see her son. It makes me angry.

"Move and see your son." I grab her by the neck, shouting and forcing her to move.

"No, no, no, no..." She averts her eyes and begins to shake. She moves away from Onelio.

I throw her down, and she covers her face with her arms.

"So weak." I point the gun at her, ready to shoot. Then I hear Onelio cough.

I look back, and his body is moving. I thought he was dead. I let her go. I call Cloe.

"What..."

"Somebody attacked Onelio and his mom. Come to their house, now." I speak harshly.

"I am on my way." I cut the call and began to make other calls.

We have rules with Cloe. If I call her to come somewhere, she will call the medics in this town. And I...

"Do you remember the wife of the robber? I need your help to find their kids." When the third time god appears, he takes away all the kids. But it doesn't mean humans cannot have babies.

I make all the calls that I need to. I look at the woman and feel a smile on my face.

Your kids will help me with Maria. If what she said was real and someone wanted to have a baby even with me, I don't think they would care.

If they do care, it's something I don't see. I am a genius... maybe.

The people came to help. It's hard for this town; since we took power, no one dies. Some go to jail and are beaten, but no one dies.

The group who attacked Onelio were people who had ties to us before. Am I applying our law too harshly or not harshly enough?

At this moment, I wish I could be an alcoholic to drown our grief and sadness. But I must work... I see someone working.

"Where are they?" My brother Angel is screaming at the thief. The thief hesitates for a second, and Angel hits him with a thorny branch.

The family of the group left town and attacked other people before Onelio. He is not the only one.

"What do you think of me? Of us? Answer me." Angel looks at the man next to the thief. "Answer me." He hits him so hard that the stick breaks. I give him another.

"Really, are you trying to be a hero?" Angel stops and looks at everyone. "You know what will happen." He breathes deeply, trying to calm down.

"Women will become slaves who make babies for the community. If they cannot do it, they will become objects of free use for this town. If you have the 'luck' to survive this, I will sacrifice you to appease my gods." He speaks slowly, trying to threaten, but he begins to think of other things.

"The men will have their genitalia and pinkies cut off. I know a place where they want male slaves to work and have free time. The kids will be sold to a cult that wants new believers and acolytes. They say something about the kids being pure or something." He puts his hand on his chin and looks at an old couple.

"My wife has a summon where it believes she is a witch and needs a sacrifice. Maybe we can try. At least she will be quiet for a while."

He finishes his loud thoughts and looks one last time at the group. He is waiting for someone to talk.

He nods to everyone and signals me to follow him, thus ending the argument. Angel states the actions we would take with all the prisoners in town, of course, making some exceptions. No one opposes it.

At least no one in front of everyone, but some women come close to us to keep some men for free use. We argue about how many men to keep. For a second, I thought I didn't have to do anything to save myself from Maria.

Three days later, I learned what the women were doing to the men... They will create something 'unique' in this town. Later we will learn that we earned a surname for this action when it gets out of control.
