Carla's eyes widened. She wanted to check on Emily immediately but hesitated as her hand touched the door handle. She paused, reconsidering, and withdrew her hand. Pressing her lips into a thin line, she said to Kai, "She should be okay. If it's not urgent, you can wait until the afternoon," gesturing to the file in his hand.
Just as Carla was about to turn back to her office, she turned back to Kai, who was still standing in front of Emily's office. "Actually, come to my office," she instructed, leading Kai down the hall.
Moments after they left, the office door opened, and Alex emerged, his face darkened with annoyance.
