Chapter 16 - Graverobbing

Raze was stuck in a dilemma right now with two choices.

The first and obvious choice was to just kill the goblin and loot all the corpses.

As for the second choice, he could choose to follow this goblin and learn the location of their settlement.

On paper, the second choice definitely seemed more favourable, but it had one major problem.

He just couldn't see how this goblin would manage to reach its settlement while carrying the wolf with all the injuries it had sustained.

It had already lost one of its arms, and with all its injuries, it looked to be on the verge of death.

Chances were it would encounter another predator on its way and get killed and eaten.

It was a bit of a waste, but it couldn't be helped; he was better off killing it.

However, before he could make his move, the goblin whistled, which caught Raze by surprise.

From nearby bushes, goblins emerged, all holding different weapons.

While he couldn't get an exact number, if he had to guess, there were easily more than 10.

Which far exceeded his current capability of taking on.

The only reason he easily killed 20 before was because his gun had bullets, something he clearly lacked now.

But now, with just his spear and two bullets, it would be a miracle if he could take on even five goblins at once.

While there was also his innate rune's sub-effect to consider, he wasn't sure how exactly it worked, so he couldn't take it into consideration yet.

It was definitely in his best interest to avoid this fight and just continue observing.

'I really dodged a bullet by not coming out earlier'

One of the goblins that just came out spoke something to the brown-vested goblin from earlier.

But to Raze, it just sounded like some annoying screeches and noises that he couldn't understand.

After around a minute of these noises, it took out a sword and beheaded the brown-vested goblin in one swift and painless motion of the sword.

Raze was really surprised by this and almost stumbled back at the cruelty with which the goblin killed one of its kin, but he made sure to not make any noises.

After killing the brown-vested goblin, it walked towards the corpse of the wolf and shouted out some commands in its annoying voice.

Hearing its voice, all the other goblins that had come with it moved and helped carry the corpse of the wolf as they left the area, making their way through the dense forest.

They had just left the corpses of their comrades, who had hunted the fowl beast in the forest, to rot and get eaten by beasts.

After more than 10 minutes of them being gone, Raze finally stepped out of the bush he was hiding in.

He had already used his [farsight] to confirm that there were no more monsters nearby who could potentially harm him.

But still, one could never be too careful, so he was on guard for any potential threat that might come and harm him.

"That was hardcore," Raze commented.

He was really shocked to see the display of cruelty and indifference towards their own kin by the goblins.

But thinking about it logically, the smell of blood that the brown-vested goblin was exuding would have probably attracted unnecessary predators.

Also, judging from all his wounds, the chances of him surviving the journey back were slim.

He was about to kill it for the same reason, so he was really in no position to judge.

'It doesn't really matter, I guess'

Raze considered following the group of goblins back to their settlement to learn where they lived, but he quickly got the idea out of his head.

If he was discovered, it would spell doom for him, and even if he learned where they lived, it wouldn't help him immediately.

The risk just outweighed the loss.

Also, there was another reason he chose not to go, and that was to graverob.

Ever since earlier, he had his eyes on the bow and arrow that one of the goblins was wielding, and thanks to his class, he could use it quite well.

As well as the brown vest the leader was wearing.

Thanks to Raze being quite short as well as the goblin being taller than normal, they were about the same height, so he could wear the vest to provide some protection after he cleaned it.

The sword and shields, as well as the dagger the other goblins were using, were also potentially useful, so he planned to take them too.

Unfortunately, this was where the good news ended due to the spears being used by the goblins being too crude; they were broken by the wolf.

Maybe there was an argument to be made about using the sharp ends as projectiles if he was really desperate.

However, much to his dismay, his inventory had very limited space right now, and using this precious space on broken weapons just seemed beyond stupid.

As Raze slowly made his way through the corpses and graverobbed, he almost barfed due to how disgusting the whole scene was.

The whole ground was covered in green and red blood, which made the whole place smell like shit.

Raze had no doubt that some sort of beast would be arriving soon to feast on the corpses, so he had to hurry.

Sadly, that was easier said than done, as his hands were trembling due to disgust at touching and robbing the mutilated and headless corpses.

It took a lot of willpower for him to not stop and barf, but he still held on.

'If this were still Earth, I would have probably been labelled a criminal for robbing the dead and hated by everyone'

It was a bit funny how little time it had taken him to throw away the morals and teachings he had learned for the past 16 years in less than a few hours.

But maybe this was one of humanity's best abilities—to be able to adapt to any situation and improvise.

Finally, after a few minutes, he was done taking everything he was interested in.

He even disassembled the corpses a little to get the beast's core and runes.

Once he was done looting, he was about to leave, but before he did, there was one thing he wanted to try.

Placing his hand on the corpses of one of the goblins, he used his innate rune.

And surprisingly, the corpse disappeared into thin air, almost like it was never there.

"Now this is interesting."
