Chapter 9 - Quest completed!

Ken swung his sword and, with minimal effort, decapitated the 100th goblin.

"That's a hundred," he muttered, stepping back to avoid two more goblins lunging at him.

He glanced at them, bored, and effortlessly beheaded both. Afterward, he tapped his sword against a tree, flicking the blood off before sheathing it.

[That's 102. Reward now or later?]

The system lazily chimed in, equally bored after watching Ken slaughter the goblins with cold efficiency. It had expected him to complete the quest after the wolves.

"Now would be preferable," Ken replied, walking away from the pile of goblin corpses that would soon be left to rot—or feed other monsters.

Three screens appeared simultaneously in front of him:

"Hmm, I might end up using the third one in the future a lot, it will be very helpful in training and such," Ken sounded unimpressed, casually dismissing the screens as he kept walking.

[Huh? You kidding, right? You know damn well that titles are just effects! There are so many more that can act to save you from life or death accidents. Especially the Anomaly title! It's not like the empty Anomaly Thraxis gave you]

The system got triggered, she had personally selected this title, acknowledging Ken as an Anomaly, an existence she wasn't able to comprehend. So, Ken dismissing the title was basically saying her acknowledgment meant nothing.

But Ken didn't intend to do that so the system didn't bother to reveal it was her acknowledgment.

"I am aware that titles aren't just what the screens show them to be. Every title can be said to be special and unique to each place, even if the titles are the same. But there are still common ones and mind-blowing ones, by the effects of the Anomaly titles fall into the common but I don't know that yet, so I won't say more than what I already have."

Ken honestly stated, giving his thoughts on the matter, which was neither saying he was devaluing the title or saying it was great, staying neutral on the matter.

Of course, he had initially thought nothing of the title, but the system got triggered so he figured the title had more than what was shown.

Ken started to pick up the pace, slowly getting used to his stronger body, he was already at his previous top speed and slightly above it. He started to go faster, suppressing all the top athletes on Earth.

[Sigh... Yeah, compared to other titles the effects are common... But just know that the title doesn't just have effects. The effects are just the surface of what a title can do, they are nothing compared to what it truly can do.] She seriously and somewhat resignedly said, [Just know that you will need to find the true extent of what the title can do... I can't tell you and neither can the Book of Records.]

She added in, a little frustrated but just accepting it.

"I will keep in mind,"

Ken flatly said but stayed silent, heading to the city.

[You always like things after you kill? As I recall, you were less talk and more action after you killed a bunch in the past]

The system lazily commented, bringing up his habit as a topic, already bored.

"It's nothing special, I like to keep my mind clear after killing, it helps me not remember a certain thing...."

Ken answered, not bothering to explain, but the system already knew, she was just asking to waste time.

[Hmm, about that one specific person you are searching for?]

The system offhandedly asked, but the next second she regretted it.

Ken's face slightly darkened, but he remained silent and didn't respond.

The system remained silent, the topic she was about to bring was Ken's reverse scale and something that made her curious but also very unwilling to be involved with as it was related to why Ken was an Anomaly. Something she dearly wanted to know but her cautions were too great to take any risk with the Unknown.

Minutes passed and neither of them spoke, Ken was already at the buffer zone and was slowing down as he arrived as he got closer to the city.

Entering the city, he got some skeptical looks from the city guards, Someone theme tried to approach him, but Ken simply ignored them and went past, not letting any drama take place.

Ken walked briskly, going straight to the Adventurers Association to register and get an ID card, avoiding all the troublesome situations.

He hadn't gone with Aisa earlier to let her learn on her own about things, plus he wasn't worried about her getting into any trouble, since when he left her there, it was right after the rush hour.

It didn't take long for Ken to arrive at his destination, entering the Association, which was just a massive pub. He looked around. The pub was massive, almost the size of a basketball coat.

The right side was the receptions, quest boards, and such, while the remaining sides were all a massive pub with a lot of noisy adventures sitting around drinking, eating, planning, and arranging their stuff.

Ken only glanced around and headed to the right side at the first reception, which had a sign that said 'Starters and Quests' which was convenient. There were two clerks there, one male and one female, Both had good looks.

The atmosphere of the whole pub slowly started to still as Ken walked up to the two clerks.

The female clerk stared at Ken, dazed while the male clerk looked apologetic and sympathetic as Ken reached them.

[Wow! You become a target for all, the men are after your neck while the women are after what's in your pants.]

The system teased, but Ken couldn't care less. As a Valxin he was always the center of attention in High Society, so this was nothing.

'Not something I would want to hear, but thanks.'

Ken mentally responded as he stopped in front of the reception

"I'd like to register as an adventurer. If you can, please make it quick." Ken requested as he faced the male clerk, not even glancing at the female clerk who was still staring at him.

The male clerk, a young man with brown hair, and brown eyes, nodded and quickly got to work.

Pulling out a piece of paper from under the reception table and handing it to Ken with a pen.

Ken took the paper and pen and gave the content of the paper a quick scan. It was just a registration form.

Ken quickly filled up the form and passed it to the clerk who gave a quick scan.

The clerk didn't question what was written or even care for that matter, this was just a formality. "Will that be all?" he asked politely as he put away the paper.

"No, I will leave after the registering procedure is completed." Ken plainly said as he caught a glimpse of a man who was slowly getting close to him.

[You not going to hide your last name? If you make enemies then they might target you in BlueVali,]

'Why should I? If there is anyone that wants to come after me in BlueVail, then they are free to take the risk.'

Ken cold and disdainfully said, finding the idea of someone doing anything to him in BlueVail unreal and stupid. The ones he would even consider a threat are all from the High Society and all of them know him well.

[Hey! I was just asking!! Why so cold!!? I am stuck with you!! Show me some love!!]

'Not worth it.'

[Ugh...]

Ken ignored the system for a moment and waited for the clerk who had taken out a thick book and was copying Ken's registration form down. He then took out a silver card and handed it to Ken.

"This is your temporary Adventurer card, It will take 3 days for your official adventure card to be made, and within that day you have to complete at least 1 quest. And since you have written down 'Plenty' in experience, there will be no test."

The clerk politely said. He looked behind Ken, his smile faltering for a second.

Ken pocketed the card and turned around, facing a man who looked to be in his 40s. This man had crept up to him and looked very mad and drunk.

"Hey, Brat."

The man grinned, his voice gruff and drunk.

Ken just looked at the man, annoyed. The man opened his mouth to say something, but Ken reached out for his sword, drew it out in smooth motions, and placed it on the neck of the man, who instantly sobered up.

"Move out of my way before I have to move your dead body myself." Ken coldly whispered and slightly cut into the man's neck, drawing blood. Ken was dead serious there.

The man trembled, not expecting the situation to turn against him like this. He tried to say something but it only made him look stupid.

" I don't like the one who can bark but can't bite. It's annoying me, so move out of my way already," Ken coldly said and the man without delay got out of his way.

Ken didn't wait for any drama to unfold and directly left, not even sparing a glance at anyone inside the pub. Right after Ken stepped out of the building, a commotion broke out which Ken wanted no part of.

Ken ignored everywhere present and simply walked away, not even sparing a glance at anyone inside the pub.

[Now that's a surprise~ I never thought that you still had it in you after 2 years of leave from High Soecity]

The system praised him, a little surprised.

[Also that man is the first person ever let go alive by you~ The First in the world to be shown Mercy by the Prince Valxin!]

The system grandiosely announced, making a big deal. Ken's lips twitched in annoyance, and he ignored the system for the time being. But she didn't stop, she kept on going, just being annoying.

Ken left the city again and let out a sigh,

[On the all mighty Valxin Prince that had reaped countle-]

"How much for a backpack?"

Ken cut her off, making her stop her annoying ramblings.

[HEY!!! You! Why stop me now!!? I Was Just Getting To the Good Parts Of Your History!!]

The system shouted in fake anger which really started to tick off Ken. Ken was very tolerant and such words wouldn't usually get through to him, but somehow, when the system changed to her annoying mood she could really trigger him.

[Sigh.... I was so close to recounting your first debut in the High Society. 100 system points...]

Ken rolled his eyes, "Get it"

Ken ordered and instantly a blue backpack appeared in front of him. It was a modern laptop backpack with nothing special. Ken grabbed it before it fell to the ground and checked it out.

[It's blood-proof and doesn't let the smell out. It's good for collecting loot. Thank me.]

"Go die." exgesporated.

Ken wore the backpack on one shoulder and headed to the forest. Completely ignored the system that started complaining. He was already exasperated by now but unable to mute the system so he endured.

Ken started to jog, getting comfortable with the back behind him.

On the edge of the forest, Ken caught Aisa in his sight, making him turn to her, "Aisa?" he stopped and looked in the direction of Aisa who was holding a blood-covered sword. She was facing the other direction so she didn't see Ken.

Ken didn't bother her and left.

He was a little worried about little Aisa but he didn't want to interfere with her too much.
