Chapter 53 - 52

The nurse came in to help Xiang Yu with the IV again, scolding Xiao Zhanyuan, "She's sick, and you're still making her angry. Reflect on yourself and go comfort your girlfriend." She shot Xiao Zhanyuan a glare before leaving. Both Xiang Yu and Xiao Zhanyuan were emotionally stirred, so they didn't speak further. Xiao Zhanyuan looked at Xiang Yu's profile; her fine bangs cast shadows over her eyes, obscuring her expression. He couldn't tell what she was thinking, but she had stopped crying. Xiao Zhanyuan thought back for a long time before suddenly realizing that this was the first time Xiang Yu had cried in front of him. Why did he think Xiang Yu cried often? Dreams and reality overlapped, blurred like in a fog, making it hard to distinguish the path.

Xiang Yu finally calmed down but remained confused. In her previous life, she loved Lu Heng, and she probably loved Xiao Zhanyuan too. But maybe she didn't understand how love is. What about now? Does she understand love now? What is love anyway? Is it holding hands? Companionship? Trust? Or attraction? She couldn't figure it out, and her confusion deepened.

Xiao Zhanyuan sent Xiang Yu home. Her grandmother noticed something was wrong. Xiang Yu had to say she had a fever and got an IV. Her grandmother, holding her hand tenderly, noticed the bruise and scolded, "My little girl, why didn't you tell Grandma to go with you to the hospital?" Xiang Yu pointed at Xiao Zhanyuan and said, "Grandma, a classmate accompanied me today." Her grandmother thanked Xiao Zhanyuan, asked Xiang Yu to lie down in her room, and mentioned going out to buy a chicken to make chicken soup. Xiang Yu hugged her grandmother, assuring her not to worry, and obediently went to her room.

After sending Xiang Yu home, Xiao Zhanyuan left without saying much more. Xiang Yu lay on her bed, dazed and unable to sleep. She thought of Lu Heng, her previous life's Lu Heng. Her heart seemed to settle, as if a light appeared in the fog—Lu Heng, who never let go of her hand. In this life, she suddenly realized that she was striving for what she wanted, as if she had become her own light.

The room was quiet; her grandmother must have gone out. Suddenly, the doorbell rang. Xiang Yu got up slowly to answer the door and saw Lu Heng's face. Xiang Yu felt a bit dazed, like in a dream. She hugged Lu Heng, rubbing her head lightly against his chest, "Lu Heng, why did you just come?" Her voice carried a hint of a sob, "I was so scared, Lu Heng." She looked up at him and saw Lu Heng's flushed face, his limbs stiff and motionless. Xiang Yu, seeing his youthful face, came to her senses. It wasn't Lu Heng. No, it shouldn't be… She stopped her thoughts, let go of him, and asked nonchalantly, "Why did you come?"

Lu Heng, unsettled by her actions, felt like he was falling from the clouds. He looked at Xiang Yu, noticing her pale complexion, "I missed you. I wanted to see you." His voice faltered, growing softer. Xiang Yu let him in and explained, "I've had a fever these past few days, so…" Before she could finish, Lu Heng pressed his forehead against hers, feeling the lingering warmth. "Why didn't you tell me?" His tone carried some reproach but mostly concern. Xiang Yu didn't avoid his gaze, looking directly into his eyes. Lu Heng stepped back but stayed close, "I'll take you to the hospital." Xiang Yu raised her left hand, showing him the bruise on the back of her hand, "I've been on an IV for two days, just got back."

Lu Heng was silent for a while but finally couldn't help asking, "Did Xiao Zhanyuan take you to the hospital?" He didn't realize it himself, but his voice was tinged with anger and unease. Xiang Yu smiled softly, "Are you jealous? Or don't you trust me?" "I didn't…" Before he could finish, Xiang Yu wrapped her arms around his waist, looking up at him with a smile, "Didn't what?" Fireworks seemed to go off in Lu Heng's mind as Xiang Yu stepped back slightly but kept smiling at him. He reached out, pulling her into his arms, his voice filled with careful longing, "So, Xiang Yu, do you like me?" Xiang Yu looked at him, as if seeing through him to the person in her heart, the one she wished for when she came to this life. She nodded firmly, "Of course, I only like you." She cupped Lu Heng's face, stood on tiptoe, and pressed her lips to his. The next second, Lu Heng's hand cupped her head, his other arm around her back, kissing her with youthful earnestness. When they finally parted, they looked at each other and couldn't help but laugh.
