Xue Min saw Xiang Yu again at a computer science department event. In fact, he had seen her several times in the past few days, but just like in high school, Xiang Yu hadn't noticed him. This event was aimed at freshmen, and Xue Min technically didn't need to attend, but he was responsible for a department club. He used this as an excuse to see if there were any potential new members.
Before Xiang Yu even entered the classroom, he spotted her. He noticed that Xiang Yu liked plain, quiet colors, and today was no exception. She wore a light blue dress that revealed a slender ankle, her hair tied up, exposing her white neck. She came alone, found a seat in the corner of the classroom, and sat down. As rumored in high school, she rarely interacted with others besides that sports student, seeming to enjoy solitude.
Xue Min stood up and walked over to her. "Xiang Yu, long time no see." Xiang Yu looked up and saw him, her expression unchanged. She politely stood up and slightly bowed, saying, "Hello, Mr.Xue." Xue Min naturally sat down beside her, speaking with a tone of certainty and praise, "I knew you'd get in too." He sensed her body tensing a bit and saw her slightly furrowed brows. "Thank you, Mr.Xue." Xiang Yu's voice was calm and indifferent, showing no interest in chatting with him.
Xue Min felt a bit discouraged but told himself, "That's just her personality. She's like this with everyone." After a pause, he said, "Our department has a club that works on projects. It's very useful for practical experience and can earn you credits. Would you like to join? If you're interested, I can nominate you." Xiang Yu frowned slightly, "But I'm a freshman. I don't know anything."
"That's exactly why it's a good opportunity to learn. It'll help with your studies, and we do recruit a few outstanding freshmen each year for special training. I always thought you were excellent." Xiang Yu didn't respond immediately, seeming to ponder. "Mr.Xue, let me think about it, okay?" she said after a moment.
Xue Min took out a notebook and pen from his bag, wrote down a series of numbers, and handed the paper to Xiang Yu. "This is my dorm's phone number and my pager number. I'll wait for your answer." Xiang Yu folded the paper and tucked it into her notebook. Xue Min wanted to talk more with her, but she sat there quietly, only nodding slightly or giving a soft "hmm" in response, her aloofness making him uncomfortable. He had always been a star, and only Xiang Yu treated him so indifferently. He gradually fell silent, and they stopped talking, just sitting there. Fortunately, the event soon started, preventing a prolonged awkwardness.
When it ended, Xiang Yu stood up and politely said, "Thank you, Mr.Xue. I'll leave now. Goodbye." Before Xue Min could respond, she had already merged into the crowd and left. Xue Min sat there, dazed for a moment, then gave a self-mocking smile and got up to leave.
