James's POV
Aimee has been giving me angry looks all this time. What does she want? Even though I don't care about all the thoughts in her head, her expression still bothers me.
She's an omega; does she think she can treat me like that?
"She's jealous, James. An aura of anger is radiating from her," Diz said.
"Is she dreaming of becoming my Luna? Come on, she already knows, Diz! Besides, there's no way I would leave Emilia for a weak girl like Aimee!"
"And can you please not bring Emilia into the conversation, just for once?"
Talking to my wolf is pointless. He always opposes my thoughts; lately, he's been defending Aimee. But Aimee doesn't have a wolf, and Diz likes Emilia, the wolf. How could he be interested?
"Thank you, Aimee, your homemade tea is delicious. I've never tasted tea like this in my pack."
Vincent's praise made Aimee smile slightly, but afterward, she gave me a sarcastic look.
Damn it. It seems unworthy for a lowly omega to treat me like this!
"Aimee, if you're done with your business, leave! Are you trying to eavesdrop on our conversation?!"
"Calm down, dude! Why are you yelling at her?" Vincent nudged my leg.
I continued to give Aimee a scornful look as she busily wiped a table nearby before moving on, bowing her head. I was really annoyed with Aimee; her behavior had been out of line since this morning.
"Don't you see how she's acting towards me? Does your omega act like that too?"
Vincent chuckled while taking another sip of the tea made by Aimee, which now only had half a glass left. "What's wrong with her behavior? I see it as normal. She's beautiful, friendly, and polite. The omegas in my pack are much more reckless and rough in their work."
It's been a while since I've seen Vincent, but when he described Aimee, I felt something implied. Especially when he immediately took another sip of his tea as if trying to cover up an awkward feeling.
"What happened, dude? You look different; your face slightly blushes when talking about Aimee."
"Really? Well, I can't hide my expression when her captivates me. She's the most beautiful woman I've ever seen after the late Elsa. I admit that."
Yeah, his Luna is indeed lovely. I've never seen a woman as beautiful as Elsa. She was like an angel, and her tragic death due to a pack attack from the north four years ago was painful. And now that I think about it, that was probably the last time I saw Vincent.
"I miss Elsa. But honestly, I'm glad to see you, Vincent. You've been isolating yourself for too long." I pat Vincent's shoulder.
He smiled and patted my hand. "She's happy in heaven; this is the right time to move on. My pack has fallen far behind; we've lost our status as the second-strongest pack after yours. We've become ordinary and not very keen on socializing with other packs. Even meeting you takes up all my energy."
What Vincent said was true. We were close friends and always together. Our packs were like twin siblings, I always helped him when there were problems, and he did the same for me.
Unfortunately, during the attack, my members and I were training, and the Northern pack's magic abilities made us miss the signals they sent.
I really miss the laughter that used to happen between me and Vincent. We used to have double dinners together. And now, it's just the two of us. The only similarity between us is that we were both left by our mates.
"So, we don't need to discuss what has happened. I came here because I wanted to meet my old friend. Tell me about your life in the past four years; where's Emilia, and why are you going crazy with women again, James?"
"I was just thinking about the similarity between us. We were both left by our mates, and that's quite sad. Emilia is gone, Vincent."
Vincent leaned closer to me, wearing a serious expression. "Really? But why? I know she wasn't your mate, but you've been together for quite a while."
"I'm always happy when I hear you mention the word 'mate' in relation to me. If you do that, you've become much better after that terrible incident, Vincent. Yes, she's gone. She got bored with me and left, or more accurately; she left with another Alpha. What can I do? She wasn't my mate; I couldn't mark her."
It's a tragedy for me when I remember the day she left and returned while I was with Aimee in the woods. Emilia was the only thing that could shatter me in an instant.
"I'm sorry for what you've been through. Have you still yet to find your mate, James? It's been five years since you turned 18, and you still haven't found your mate. It feels like this is the first time there's been a case like this. I'm sorry if you're unhappy with this conversation, but it's the reality. After Elsa was gone, I met my new mate twice, but I rejected them all because I'm still not used to having new women in my life."
I smiled, feeling hearing how easily Vincent could find a mate from the Moon Goddess was unfair.
"Stupid, James. Didn't you hear? He rejected you! If you want to find your mate, you must reject Aimee! The Moon Goddess will surely give you someone else! But you choose to stay with her to wait for Emilia! Such a foolish reason!"
"Shut up, Diz! Stop interfering in my conversations and thoughts!"
I devoured the ginger cookies on the table. I don't know; it feels like I need enough energy to explain the matter of a mate to Vincent. Yes, I will be honest with him if Aimee is my mate. Vincent is my best friend, and I never hide anything from him.
"Are you hungry, James? I rarely see you devouring ginger cookies so aggressively. You finished six pieces in an instant!" Vincent chuckled.
"No, I'm just trying to hide my nervousness, Vincent. I want to confess something to you, and it might surprise you. Aimee is my mate, and I've known it since I turned 18. I've been keeping it from you..."
Vincent's eyes widened; he shook his head and said, "What?!"
