The next morning, I woke up to the shrill sound of birds.
-If only my sister hadn't given my parents the idea to buy such noisy and ugly birds, I muttered irritated
They find it charming, but for me it was daily torture. I get up, muttering threats at the damn birds before heading to the bathroom.
After a quick shower, I dressed carefully. I opted for a comfortable beige sweater and a fairly short black leather skirt that hugged my curves. I was adjusting the details of my outfit in front of the mirror, trying to look as confident as possible despite the tension from the day before.
And let's not forget the final piece the perfume and my dagger necklace, I thought
I then went downstairs and heard voices coming from the living room. As I approached, I immediately recognized the voices of my parents and that of Lorenzo. My heart sank, already sensing that the day would not start under the best auspices.
When I entered the living room, I found them in the middle of a lively discussion. My parents turned to me, their expressions changing from surprise to calculated coldness. Lorenzo suddenly shut up, giving me an indecipherable look.
-Hi, I said, trying to maintain a neutral tone.
-Hello, they replied in unison, but their tone was far from warm.
"We were just talking about you," my father said, his voice strict. Lorenzo came to talk to us about what happened last night.
I cross my arms, mentally preparing myself for the confrontation.
-And what does he have to say? I asked, staring defiantly at Lorenzo.
Lorenzo hesitated for a moment, then spoke.
-I just wanted to make sure your parents knew that yesterday you were amazing. My parents and my brother both had an excellent evening with you, he said, his tone seeming sincere.
For once it's useful for something, I thought
-I'm glad the evening went well, added my mother, but this is the last time you'll invite yourself into other people's houses like that, little carrot.
-Little carrot, repeated Lorenzo surprised
Oh no, the worst has happened!, I thought, grunting with discontent
-It's...very cute, added Lorenzo, giving me an amused glance.
I glared at him.
-Yes, it's a nickname we found for him, said my mother proudly.
-When she was little she loved to eat carrots, my father said, smiling at her, and if we didn't give her a carrot she would start to sulk.
-But she hardly ever cries, sighed my mother
-Mom, dad, that's enough, I replied dryly, a stranger doesn't need to know my life
My mother then intervenes, her voice soft but firm.
-Little carrot we already know everything between you and this young man
I sighed, feeling the frustration building.
- How so ?! What did he tell you?
Lorenzo looks at me with a wicked glint in his eyes.
-It can't continue like this, he said softly, so I admitted to them that we had been going out together for several months now.
I rolled my eyes.
-And you think it like that, I replied
A heavy silence settled in, everyone searching for words. The day had only just begun, and already the tensions were palpable. I looked at Lorenzo coldly, feeling the tension rising within me.
-Lorenzo, we have to leave for class, I said dryly, cutting short the discussion with my parents.
