I turned on my heel and left the house, Lorenzo close behind. Once outside, I suddenly turned around and grabbed him by the collar, pinning him against the wall of my house.
-What are you doing in my house?! I hissed through my teeth, my gaze burning with anger.
Far from being frightened, Lorenzo smiled at me provocatively.
-As we pretended to be a couple in front of my parents, we must also pretend in front of yours, he said calmly, his eyes shining with mischief.
I stare at him, surprised by his audacity and his total lack of fear. His words resonate within me, stirring a wave of frustration. I loosen my grip slightly, but don't let go completely.
-And you think it will work? That I'm just going to play this absurd game? I replied, my voice still cold.
He shrugged, his smile never faltering.
-If you really want to reach Damon and prevent this wedding, you're going to have to accept this role. Your parents must believe in our relationship as much as mine, it's the only way so that Damon doesn't suspect anything, he replies in a quiet tone.
I stepped back, releasing him from my grip, but I didn't take my eyes off him. Lorenzo adjusted his collar, still with that provocative smile.
-Good, I said finally, measured. But don't think that makes us allies.
He laughed softly, his eyes still sparkling.
-Oh, I never thought we were allies
-Yeah, we're just temporary partners with a common goal, I added coldly.
I sigh, realizing I don't have many options. To protect my sister and carry out my plan, it seems I will have to play this game, even if it means working with Lorenzo.
"Let's go," I said, turning towards the car. The day has only just begun, and I already have the feeling that it's going to be long.
Lorenzo follows me, and as we get into the car, I can't help but think about the complexity of the situation. If pretending is what it takes to achieve my goal, then I'm willing to do it. But Lorenzo better not underestimate me.
We get in the car, and once settled, I can't help but think back to last night. As we hit the road, I turn my head toward Lorenzo, determined to get answers.
-Why yesterday, when I searched your brother Damon's office, I didn't find anything? I asked
Lorenzo smiled slightly, an amused glint in his eyes.
-If you think that Damon would put official documents in a place that is not secure then you are naive, he replies calmly.
I grit my teeth, trying to control my anger.
-Repeat the word naive one more time and I'll throw you out of the car
"So where does he hide his official documents?" I replied, determined to get more information.
Lorenzo shook his head, his smile not faltering.
-Damon is much smarter and more careful than you think. He leaves nothing to chance. His most important documents are probably hidden in a much more secure location, perhaps even outside the house.
I sigh, frustrated by the difficulty of the task. But deep down, I know Lorenzo is right. Damon wouldn't be so reckless.
-And you know where this place could be? I asked, trying to get more leads.
Lorenzo looks at me, his expression becoming more serious.
-Even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you. But I can give you one piece of advice: think like him. Look for the places where he feels safest, the places where he would be least likely to be discovered.
-Lorenzo I think you haven't understood who is in a position of power here, I sneered, don't forget that I can easily have access to all humiliating photos
-I don't think so, he said to me in a confident tone.
-Give me 15 minutes and I will hack everything that belongs to you, I said to him playfully
-No, thank you, it'll be fine, he said to me through gritted teeth, I'll help you but I can't give you information about my brother's business.
-I prefer this answer honestly, I told him, but I will be able to find this information without you
Lorenzo smiled again, a smile just as mischievous as mine.
-I don't doubt it for a second, he answers simply.
The rest of the journey is done in silence, everyone lost in their thoughts. Me, thinking about the next step in my plan, and Lorenzo, probably wondering how far I'm willing to go.
