Chapter 14 - Chapter 14: Promise*

The next morning.

Alec helped Emma with her shower, her wound was still fresh and she couldn't stand on her own for too long. She clung onto him..her arms wrapped around his neck, she didn't mind her nakedness in front of him.. her eyes were concentrated to one thing, and that was his face.

His eyes and thick lashes, his reddish thin lips that brushed against her neck when moving her hair to wash her back. His fingertips caressing her soft skin while holding her still.

He turns off the shower.. grabbing a towel, he wrapped her with it... bringing her back to the room, as he laid her down in front of the dressing mirror. Alec went to change his wet pajamas, getting into his sweat clothes.

He dried Emma's hair with the hair dryer, Emma watched him through the mirror..he looked so focused and serious, staring at her hair to make sure it was dry and perfect.. like some kind of professional hairdresser.

He made her a ponytail that didn't seem to sit quite right, it went sideways. Emma just stared at it quietly through the mirror.

With a satisfied nod, he helped her get dressed in a summer yellow dress.. with a white sweater. making her sit on the bed while he dried his own hair.

In an apartment of Chinatown, a tall slender woman took off her black coat and gloves.. untying her silver grey hair and letting it fall smoothly on her shoulders. She lays back on the couch grabbing a cigarette and lighter on the small table next to the couch, putting the cigarette in her mouth..she lights it up, as smoke puffs out of her mouth smoothly.

She closed her eyes inhaling and exhaling the smoke, a shadow blocked her eyes.. with a frown, she slowly opens her eyes raising a brow at the woman standing in front of her.

" What?." She spoke lazily. " Where were you, Ava?." The woman spoke.

" Since when did you start getting into my business, Aunty? You know not to ask me such useless questions." She simply said puffing out smoke.

" I heard you talking to someone on the phone, who do you want to kill this time Ava?."

" Ugh, I'm tired of your irritating questions Aunty, I'm tired and I had a long journey. " She said getting up. " I'm going to take a shower, be a good Aunty and fix me something to eat... I'm hungry." She added walking away.

" Did you hurt her?" Ava paused in her tracks.. but she didn't look back. " Is Emma okay, Ava?." Her Aunt's voice trembled as she asked the question, Ava turned back around.. taking slow steps towards her.

" Aunty, don't worry about what I do, unfortunately she survived... lucky isn't she?." Ava gave a sly smile waking away.

Alec and Emma walked into the dining room for breakfast, her eyes landed on the gorgeous man seated around the table..the way he ate and chewed was elegant, like a royal prince.

Emma thought he looked pretty familiar. Zain looked up from his plate, their eyes met.. making Emma's heart skip a beat, those eyes..those shiny gold eyes, she can recognize those beautiful eyes from a mile away. He was the one that saved her that night, he brought her to the hospital. But what was he doing here? Wait! Is he.....

She stares back at Alec who was staring back at Zain with a straight face, like always.. his face was unreadable..not knowing what was going through his head.

Zain stood up, walking towards them..he stopped in front of Emma staring down at her, she lifts her head meeting his breathtakingly gaze.

" You survived, congrats." She heard him say, Emma blinked at him surprisingly. Is that all he has to say? He's just as weird as Alec, both having one personality.. both having indifferent aura, unreadable expressions.. and cold beautiful eyes.

" Y - you saved me, thank... you." Emma said in a flat tone. Zain simply walks past her.. leaving, Emma looks back at Alec with a concerned look in her eyes.

" Shall we have breakfast?." He gave her a slight smile pulling out a chair for her, she sat down quietly.

Emma would stare at him time to time, she wanted to say something but couldn't bring herself to say it. Alec puts down his fork and knife with a stiff sigh noticing her unsettling movements.

" Something wrong?." He spoke staring back at her, she shook her head drinking a mouthful of water. " Well, yes....I mean, no - yes...well n.....

" Can you spit it out already, clearly there's something on your mind." Alec cuts her words as she stammered. Emma swallowed hard meeting his enchanting, sinful - enticing gaze.

" Well, is - is everything okay... between you and Laura?" She spoke in a flat tone. Immediately she mentioned her name, his entire aura changed. There it was, that shadowy and alluring presence surrounding him, that unfathomable face. It was like saying her name was forbidden in this house, now she was damn curious to know what's happening between them.

His metallic blue eyes stared into hers, glimmering with something that she couldn't quite put together, Emma's instincts suddenly kicked in. ' get out of there, run...run...run '

Why was she suddenly feeling the urge to get out of there, he wouldn't hurt her would he? But the look in his eyes told her otherwise..it scared to death. Alec shut his eyes closed for a few seconds, she could tell he was battling with his demons inside him, that's if he has one.

" Alec." She whispered his name. Alec stood without a word, going back upstairs. Emma was confused to what she just said wrong...it was only a question after all, a simple one by that. An idea suddenly popped up in her head. ' should she push the question to Laura instead? No, that would be stupid..she will look like an untrustworthy - jealous wife '

That part was out of question.

Chinatown, Somewhere In New York City.

Ava finished packing up her bags, Hana returned from her grocery shopping and saw both her suitcases and Ava's in the living room, she creased her brows confusingly..her gaze shifting to Ava who just walked in with the rest of the bags.

" Ava, what's all this, are we going back to Thailand?." Hana spoke putting down her bags of groceries.

" Even better Aunty, we're going to the Anderson mansion...we will be living there from now onwards." She simply said, Hana widened her eyes.. not believing what her niece just said, they were supposed to lay low..to stay away from that family, so what nonsense was she spouting out? Hana shook her head approaching her.

" What are you saying Ava, we're supposed to stay away from that family... what are you up to dear."

" Aunty please, aren't you tired of running... hiding? I'm only simply giving us what belongs to us, it's my right isn't it?." Ava said with a hint of aggression in her tone.

" I promised Sarah that I will keep you away from everyone... especially Emma." Hana's eyes teared up as she said those words, her heart broke into tiny pieces.. she knew she couldn't keep Ava away forever, it was easier when she was still young.. but now she's a grown woman, it's impossible to convince her otherwise. Ava sneered staring at her.. boredom written all over her beautiful pale face.

" Promise, promise, promise... that's all you talk about and I'm sick of it, keeping a damn promise to someone who's six feet under. Sarah won't know you broke your little promise, even if she does, she won't return to ask you why you broke it." Ava takes In a deep breath.. and exhaling. " We're going to to Manhattan Aunty, are you coming with me...or not?." Hana kept silent, she took her silence as a yes. With a smile, Ava took their bags downstairs to the car.. she was finally leaving this crappy area, it was the worst three days of her life... she had everything back in Thailand, a huge house..cars.. and everything else.

Money would be sent to her account every month without working for it, but she still felt like something was lacking..her kind of job is an extraordinary one and she doesn't have to go in every day... only when called for, and she f*cking loves it. But it's time to create some lost bonds now, she was sure to have lots of fun.
