As I lay on the ground, the demon, Blak apparently, walks over towards me from somewhere out of sight. He seems slightly taller, with a more muscular form. From what I can tell at least, considering he is still covered in absolute darkness from his robes and mask.
"Good job. It seems I didn't make a mistake in helping you. Hmm." He looks around the area for a few minutes, thinking about something. "I don't usually do this, but if we're going to be working together, you may get as well know my name."
He seems... shy(?), as he says this, like it's personal for him. He holds his arms behind his back as he talks, refusing to look down at me. Still exhausted, and not caring very much, I mumble a "sure", and watch as he seems even more surprised.
"Uhm, yeah. My name. Uh..." *Ahem* "Evelyn. That's the one you should be able to comprehend, since you're still mortal. My true name would undoubtedly make you go insane if you heard it."
That's... Not what I was expecting. Evylen? Sounds a bit feminine, but whatever. He seems to like his name, as I can hear a slight smile in his voice. "Evylen. I'll be sure to remember it. And, thank you for giving me that power, even if temporarily."
He sits down on the ground next to me, with his legs crossed. As consciousness fades away, his words make a jumbled mess of sound like in my head. "I didn't give you any power. The author did. But, thanks."
~~~Evylen POV
Knowing he can't hear me, I spill some information about this world. A book built from books, an amalgamation of sorts, with us at the middle. The only true beings in this world. Glancing through the veil, I see the author writing as I think, making what was merely ideas into reality.
World building, in a literal sense. Like with all the other fictional beings, nothing was real until it was written down, cementing it's existence in the form of symbols of languages. As always, glancing through the veil brings back the doubts.
Am I real? This is a book, but does having these words written make me real? Or just a more tangible thought? No one really knows, at least for now. We both truly hope it does make me real, but the doubt remains, regardless.
I take a deep breath and reemerge in this world, before I remove my mask. Even though I have the most connection with the author, I still don't know what I look like. The only thing I know is my deathly pale skin, and my eyes are hazel, slowly oscillating through every color, even beyond what human eyes can perceive.
Looking at the young man in front of me, I send one wish to whatever being is above us all, even above the readers, that this world isn't false, and is being made as these thoughts are written. Hoping is all you can do when you can't do anything outside. Like a big fish in a small pond, I can only effect where I exist.
Sentimental, I know, but I don't care. And these will be happening consistently, so I hope you readers don't mind. Smiling knowingly, I glance beyond again, this time to you instead of the author.
"As long as I exist in someone's mind, I can't die, can I? Remember me, that's all I ask. Don't let us die."
~~Hunter POV
Waking from my sleep, I look around and see Evylen next to me, still sitting, and Fein passed out on the ground next to me. I sit up slowly, my muscles protesting heavily. "What happened?" As I look around, the memories return. Seeing that Evylen is still here makes me slightly nervous, since every time I've seen him has been about something important.
Noticing me awake, Evylen stands, and helps me up. As he grabs my hand to pull me up, even through his gloves, I feel his freezing cold skin. Literally freezing. He pulls me up so fast, my arm feels like it might get pulled out of socket, but my hand is blue and has frost on it.
He doesn't say anything, and I can't tell his expression because of his mask. He looks around for a second before he talks. "I'll be seeing you soon, hopefully. Even though this is that, I still do have responsibilities here."
Right before he disappeares again, I see his image flicker slightly, and my lips are suddenly extremely cold. Right after he disappeares, the realization of what just happened hits me. "The hell?!"
No response, obviously, but I'm still mad. Did that guy just kiss me!? I guess I could be wrong, considering his name, but I am pretty sure he is male, and I don't like guys. Nothing I can really do, I turn back and see Fein starting to wake up.
'At least she didn't see that.' I help her up slowly, but she seems tired. Not injured or in pain, "let's get out of this damn dungeon" is all she says before stumbling slowly. I help her walk, and we quickly reach the edge of the Black Forest.
As soon as I pass through the tree line, sunlight hits my face for the first time in this world. I can smell the ocean not too far away, but I don't see the sea shore. Fein smiles widely and takes a deep breath of fresh air. "Finally! Thank you Hunter. If it wasn't for you, I would have spent over a year in that dungeon. And thank you for everything else too."
I laugh lightly and kiss her on the cheek before we continue walking. Now that we are out of the forest, we have no way of getting food, so we need to get to the temporary settlement that was set up by Colfet.
