Fein doesn't react as I walk up to her, keeping up her professional demeaner. A few whisper go out as we talk, but I make sure to watch my words until we reach the far side of the camp, more secluded because of what time it is. "What is it you actually wanted to speak with me for?"
"You said I would need to get a meeting with the general, right? How do I go about that? And we should talk a bit more about our plans." I'm pretty sure she went back to this world for a reason, and that said reason wasn't to report about the dungeon. "I don't have anything guaranteed yet, but the general has agreed to a meeting with you already, since you contributed a very large amount to the clearing of the dungeon.
For our current plans, we will stay here for about a month, as I said before. After that, we will be taking the monthly shipment boat back to the Colfet. We will have to stop by the main military base before we can continue. From there, I don't have any plans." In a quieter voice, she continues, "I would prefer if we stayed in this world for a bit. There is a lot of things that need to be done."
"Sounds good. Meeting at some point, getting on the boat, military base, then whatever else needs to be done. Anything I should know about?" I try to keep the conversation going as long as possible, since we might not be able to talk too much for a while.
"When you get called for the meeting with the general, try to be as professional as possible. I left out a lot of details about what happened in the Black Forest, so be careful what you tell him." She then fills me in on what the general does and doesn't know, and a bit more about his personality. "Sorry, but I need to get going. I'll try to talk again as soon as possible."
Setting off with a saddened sigh, I watch as she walks back to the center of the camp, and out of view. I stand alone for a few more minutes before continuing the day's work. Even though I am not part of the military, I still plan on helping where I can. And it helps that I got a quest for it.
(Quest: Assist camp for 600 hours (15/600)
Reword: ???, Favorability of beings of light, Favorability of beings of dark)
Back on Earth, the average hours in a month is about 720, and since have to be here for ALMOST a month, I would think that the quest would be over at about the same time as when we leave. The odd part about this quest, though, is that it increases my favorability with both light and dark beings.
I can see why the light beings, the ones that have the strict rules about not killing, destroying, or other "evil" acts, would want me to help these people. I don't get why the beings of dark would like me to do this, or even care about what I do. I think the demons are way too spontaneous for me to be able to understand them, so I won't even try.
Either way, I have no reason not to help, and plenty of reasons to help. Hopefully, I get another memory fragment, but they seem a bit more rare. I unlocked a part of my memory when I used the katana from the zombie swordsman, and from that, I can tell I had a very interesting life. And some other things that I found myself oddly adept at.
Hunting, skinning animals, sewing, weaving, and a lot of other things too. What kind of life did I live to have learned all of these? A lot of them are random, but actually come in handy more then I probably thought they would. Lost in thought, I don't even notice when the sun starts to set, or when the man from this morning approaches me.
He looks both annoyed, and impressed for some reason, but also a hint of something else I can't quite place. "Good job today soldier. Even though you started two hours late, I'm pretty sure you did more work then most of the others. I'll be expecting even better results tomorrow, since you will be waking at the same time as the rest of us."
Barely holding my smile back again, I respond, "Of course, sir. Just not much of a morning person." He doesn't seem to like my answer, but he just walks off instead of continuing. When he is out of sight, I release the smile I was holding back. I can't believe he still thinks I am one of the actual soldiers. Anyway, the earlier I get up, the quicker I can complete my quest, so I don't mind getting up so early.
Just as I am about to head back to my tent for the night, one of the soldiers run up to me, and hand me a letter. "The general is requesting a personal meeting with you at o' five hundred, tomorrow morning. Please do not be late." He leaves after saying his piece.
Well, that was easier than I thought it was going to be. Though, five in the morning? That's before most of the soldiers are even getting up! Sighing in defeat, I know there's not anything I can do about it. I'll just have to wake up very early. Heading to my tent, I try to get as much sleep as possible, knowing I'll need it.
Or, that was my plan at least, until I hear a small giggle in the distant, and the my heart starts pumping pure adrenaline through my veins.
(Personal quest of Evylen: Attend the meeting with the general without sleep.
Reword: Increased affinity with darkness, Sleep deprivation immunity, Energetic Passive, Temporary blessing of darkness.
[P.S, you're welcome]
