The initial surprise felt fleeting. His heart skipped a beat, a very strong one, but he hid it.
The owner of the sunny-colored hair looking dim in the darkness didn't show any sign of panic. Though he didn't move his hand away from the start mechanism of the car either.

It was not a question. It was a statement. He had hoped to survive, he had tried to get away, but he had failed, so he accepted his fate. And he was not even surprised.
