Chapter 18 - Crimson flood

It was a week since he arrived in the sanctuary and began living with Icarus.

Days were calm and full of a weird sense of security.

Even the girl that at first found with all her might tried to open the door and go out and even refused to eat the food was now sitting beside him with a tired expression.

Each day looked like a dream and after writing down some of his thoughts he put his pen down and looked around.

The room before filled with flasks and rubbish was now clean and decorated by various paintings and weapons Icarus brought from outside.

In his words, the sanctuary was a dangerous place filled with madmen and people who would want to rob him of anything even his free will.

Hildebrant knew Icarus just made it look dangerous for him not to try to escape but for some reason, he had no will to do it for the time being.

His mind at the beginning was in complete chaos but now he felt a pleasant feeling traveling from his chest to his entire being.

The girl next to him just continued to watch his smiling face with expressionless and cold eyes. Her gaze sent shivers down his spine, but he refused to think about it.

Or more likely he could not think about it.

Each time he tried new thought would enter his mind directing him…where?

He could not remember.

Looking back down on a sheet of paper, he began to write again about his day while wax dripped down from the candle that was next to his paper.

Words were written on already written words but this time they were different and as ink seeped into the paper it made new words were engraved atop the old words.

Reading the text he had written he smiled in satisfaction but then his gaze flickered. Crimson red blood dripped down his hands and the paper in his hand gained writing atop another writing. So many of them no one could tell what they represented but such vision quickly disappeared.

Before he could panic his mind calmed down and Icarus entered through doors holding a bag full of food.

"Look at what I brought Hill!"

He shouted excitedly and ran up to sit next to him.

Papers were pushed out of his hands as Icarus took out weir fruit from his bag and handed it to Hildebrant.

"This is Necarus, blood fruit. It is delicate in any country in the world so eat it up while it's fresh."

Taking fruit into his hands he observed fruit that had the size of a human head and felt its structure in his hand.

It was soft, wet, and fleshly like a living human heart.

How did he even know how the human heart felt having in his hands?

Did he even… have such delicious food?

The fruit was delicate, and it would be disrespectful to not eat it.

With the gaze of Icarus observing him he burrowed his mouth into the fruit and took bite after bite.

Each bite made Icarus smile wilder until the fruit was entirely gone and the only thing remaining from it was crimson liquid dripping down Hildebrant mouth.

With a chuckle, Icarus cleaned his mouth with a napkin and caressed his head.

"Did you like it? Are you full? Or should I bring more?"

Touching his belly something in Hildebrant twisted and shook his head.

"If I try to eat more, I will most likely explode."

There was a sweet smile on Icarus's face while listening to him and even after finishing his words, Icarus did not try to distance himself from him.

From when were they so close?

Was it this week that they became so good friends?

Now he remembered that he talked to Icarus more than he expected but the girl next to him…was there even a girl next to him?

When he turned to look at the other side of the sofa there sat no one.

"What are you looking at?"

Exactly!

What was he looking at?

Shouldn't someone be sitting next to him or maybe he just imagined it?

Now when he thought about it what was he even thinking?

Grasping his head he tried to remember but nothing came to his mind.

From the beginning he was with Icarus, he saved his life and even took care of him.

The world flickered and looking down on before pure sofa all he could observe for a while was a rusty, damaged sofa sewed together from weird animal skin and blood vessels traveling from his hand to the floor.

The blinking world returned to normal, and Icarus's hand grasped his shoulder.

When he turned around Icarus looked at him worriedly.

"Are you alright?"

A warm feeling filled his chest and could not resist but smile.

"Yes."

Looking at his smile Icarus could no longer hold himself back and hugged him with his towering body submerging him into his pure fleshly muscles.

For a moment both of them became one sharing one source of warmth between themselves and in the middle of it all Hildebrant felt undescribed happiness.

How pleasing.

He whispered and his mind dived deeper into this feeling.
