Chapter 22 - Chapter 22: A DESPERATE FIGHT (1)

The war raged on..

However, with the military dead, it was just mere annihilation. Albert's men who had been given free reign, went on a rampage. They went through the streets killing anyone and everyone. The air was filled with screams of horror and despair as the villagers struggled to run away from one only to be killed by another. Wails of children, women and men are drowned out by the sounds of leza weapons searing through flesh.

The men were having a field day until one dropped dead. Then another and another. Confused, the rest of the men created a tight formation leaving no room for any unprecedented attack on all sides. A leza barrage had them on the defense. Some were injured but still their formation remained intact. As the dust cleared, they found themselves facing warriors, old looking ones at that. They looked amused," So a bunch of geezers think they can beat us eh"? said one of the men. The others laughed mockingly. The old warriors looked on. " Weren't you taught to be respectful to your elders", said a warrior who looked middle aged. " Really? Then you should act your age and die somewhere", said another soldier while the others snickered. In an instant, his head rolled to the ground. The men were stunned.

"Never under estimate the elderly," said Njeri, a *Njamba. Warriors of the village were always allowed to hunt no matter the age. However there were some who became so skilled and powerful that were given titles, lands and even a place among leadership of the village. Such warriors became national emblems and were considered heroes in their own right. These warriors were called *Njamba. A suitable title. The eleven warriors standing before Albert's men were Njamba. " Good grief Njeri couldn't you have waited a bit," a man said looking at his fellow warrior Njeri. She shrugged and looked away. " There's no such thing as waiting in war especially if one party was caught unawares you know, Chege", said Gachii another Njamba.

"Jeez I just wanted a proper introduction but I guess there's no intro in war eh"? Chege, who was their leader replied happily. As soon as he said that, the atmosphere changed. It became charged. It was as if death itself became the aura of the eleven. Albert, who had been busy trying to build Alvin's resolve also felt it but he was too far away to notice see just who it was. His men took up a new formation and reloaded their weapons. This was going to be tough.

 Meanwhile...

Thia had managed to save a few villagers including his family but he was tired. He had been fighting the invaders with his leza knives. Though they were a tad short to be called swords, he handled them well and effortlessly. " As expected you are indeed incredible and powerful," said a familiar voice from behind him. It was Mwas. He was surrounded by bodyguards and looked clean. Too clean in the middle of an invasion. " What do you want"? he asked coldly. This wasn't the time to meet let alone talk to him. " Oh I just want you to come work for me as my personal bodyguard," Mwas said looking at Thia. " No," Thia replied simply. Mwas was instantly furious. " Why not? Its not like you're tied to that idiot. I will treat you better and give you more money than he ever earns", Mwas said almost shouting.

Thia turned to reply but an explosion between them sent them drifting apart. As the dust cleared, Mwas stood face to face with Kui while Thia ended up with two men. One was Albert and the other was a soldier. Behind them the engine of the hovercraft hummed to a stop. Thia looked at the person driving it and was stunned. It was the priest he had saved. Alvin saw Thia and froze. This was the person who saved his life and... Albert swung his sword first catching Thia unaware. Luckily he dodged it by a hair's breath. He stepped back then lunged ready to attack only to be intercepted by the soldier who kicked him on his left side. No, no, no Alvin thought don't fight him please. Don't fight my brother Thia, he said to himself not trusting his voice. Kui made short work of Mwa' bodyguards asnd soon faced Mwas. " You must be a rich kid who can't hold a knife so I'm going to go easy on you where's cold water"? she asked looking at him. Mwas clicked his tongue, how dare she underestimate me he thought getting angry. He pulled out his weapons, two double barrel leza guns and shot directly at Kui. "Don't underestimate me bitch," he said his voice filled with rage.
