The two boys came closer and hovered above the human. Thia, with his twin leza knives, stood guard while Kim put away his bow and crouched turning the human clad in aqua blue clothes. A priest's clothes.
The strong pungent smell of dried infected blood struck his nose and he wriggled it slightly. The man's chest had a wound running from his right shoulder all through to his left hip. There was also another wound running in the opposite direction. Both formed a deep wound in his chest as well as having other superficial wounds all over his body. One of his legs seemed broken.
Kim looked at the priest then told Thia without looking up," Bring the med kit". Thia was apprehensive. This was a priest. He looked down on Kim and asked, "You want to treat a priest with our med kit are you crazy"? Kim looked up and is about to answer but Thia continues, " I don't think that's a good idea considering how the Leader says how they are our number one enemy". Kim looks back at the injured man.
"Do you want to leave him like that"? Kim asks touching the man's neck. There was a heartbeat, weak but stable. Thia stood conflicted. On one hand, he wanted to help but, on the other he wished to obey the rules. He was a stickler for rules. He rubbed his half dreadlocked head, this was confusing."Aah jeez, do you always have to be soo kind...", he says as he also crouches next to the man.
Kim smirked slightly. Thia always had his back. " I only carried the most basic of basics in medical kits .. so I don't know", Thia says as he rummages through his small backpack that he had carried with him. He removes bandages of different sizes and ointment, a large triangular bandage for broken arms and legs. Slowly, they treated the unconscious man careful not to cause more injuries.
Once they were done, Thia stood abruptly only for him to stagger as though he was about to faint. "You're not supposed to stand so fast after squatting f for so long you know", Kim tells him as he stands slowly, pulling Thia as support. "Don't hold onto me you idiot", Thia says as he finally stands still, pulling Kim along. Both stand looking and the priest.
" Are you going to leave him out in the open like this "? Thia continues as he glances around them. A few animals had scattered around looking like spectators to the scene before them. " That may be a bad idea considering we cannot take him home," Kim replied. He also looked around.
Thia saw, a few metres away, the shape of a hollowed out tree. He pointed it out to Kim who merely nodded in approval. He then sprinted towards it, checked it, then came back, panting. " Its a hollow Baobab tree," he says breathlessly, " We can put him in there... " he continues but stops midway to catch his breath.
Kim looked at the tree , then looked at the man on the ground. Will they be able to get him inside it? He looks at Thia and says," Alright, let's get him there," as he bends low ready to carry the man. Thia, looked at Kim and asked bluntly," What are you doing"? Kim, who had already bent and lifted the unconscious man rather awkwardly, grunted a reply. The man was heavy. Kim stopped, half carrying and half dragging the man. " Taking him there so help," he replies. He positions himself again at the man's shoulders and tries to carry him, no, half carrying half dragging.
Thia, shrugs and joins him at the shoulders. They both half drag and half carry him all the way to the tree. Slowly. A few minutes later, they put the man inside the tree. A beep sound startles them , it was time to go back to the village. They look at the man and Thia leaves one of his leza knives and a flask of water next to him. Cold water.
They leave.
