"Well, well, well. What do we have here?" A voice came from above and Ember looked up and saw a man in a black robe standing in the air. "A defeated kid with magic and a hopeless one without magic."
'I can not sense mama because of my inability to awaken my own magic but I can feel this man's strength. He is too powerful.' Ember thought inwardly and began to device means of escape.
"You there!" The man said, referring to him. "If you are thinking of running away, don't even try it."
'How did he know?' Ember thought. Having realized that escaping wasn't an option, he thought it would be better to engage the man in a small conversation, at least, create time for a rescue or something else. "Who are you? Why are you here? And what do you want from me?" He asked the man.
"Ho ho ho," the man cracked up. "Do I have to answer all these questions?"
"A dying man needs to know the reason of his death," Ember replied.
"Well said," the man agreed. "But you dont need to know who I am. As for why I am after you... I'll tell you. Dark magic, first grade, shadow dogs!"
Huge smoky beasts with glowing eyes appeared and surrounded Ember.
"What are these?" He asked, horrified.
"They are capable of tearing you into shreds," the man replied, beaming.
"The hell do you want from me?" Ember asked.
"I want that thing you are wearing. Once you hand it over to me, I'll let you go," the man replied.
'He is also after my necklace?' Ember thought and did not know when he suddenly grabbed the necklace. "I will never let you have it!" He yelled and began to run away.
"Where do you think you are running to?" The man yelled. "My shadow dogs will tear you into pieces!"
As he spoke, the huge beats went after Ember, almost catching up to him.
'Damn it!' He cursed inwardly. "I have exhausted myself so much today and can not go further, damn it! damn it!" He groaned.
One of the shadow dogs caught up to him and pounced on him, causing him to fall to the ground. The beast raised its claws and gave him a tear on his bare chest causing him to yell.
"Hahahaha!" The man laughed as he floated toward them.
"Bastard!" Alex who was now on his feet cursed while glaring at the man.
"Alex, le-leave here immediately!" Ember warned him. Though he did not like the boy, he could not accept him dying because of him. At least, he did not want to be covered in another person's blood yet.
"You shut up! And watch me deal with this bastard!" Alex replied and turned his attention to the man. "Hey you, you can not just come into my street and act all high and mighty. I will show you my real powers!"
"Hahahahah... What will you feeble spell do to me?" The man taunted and waved his hand toward Alex. "Dark magic, second grade, darkfire!"
A flickering black shadowy flames with hints of purple and black appeared and engulfed Alex immediately. He yelled and tried to use his own spell to destroy it but his efforts were futile as his flames were useless against it.
Ember saw what was happening and could not fathom the kind of spell that is, he tried to use his fists to fight off the shadow dogs but his efforts were also futile.
'Honestly, is this how I'm going to die?' He thought and a look of disappointment appeared on his face. He didn't want to die yet, at least not when his grandma was still alive.
'I don't want to die but the more these monsters bite me, the more weak I become.'
"Light magic, first grade, holy flame," a calm voice spoke from above and a bright light suddenly appeared and covered the whole place.
The darkfire dissipated, likewise the shadow dogs.
"Who are you?" The man enraged, asked.
"Kids, run off now!" The man dressed in a golden robe said to Alex and Ember.
Alex didn't waste a second and ran away but Ember remained. He was curious to know about the man that had come to rescue them as well as the battle between him and the wicked man.
"What are you still doing here?" The man asked him. "Do you want to die?"
"I don't want to and I don't want to leave also," he replied.
"You have no magic, you better leave!" The man insisted. "Your presence is not needed!" He waved his hand and an invisible force began to push Ember away.
"A magic knight?" The wicked man asked after a while. It was only the members of the magic knights wore golden robes. At this realization, the wicked man knew that he was done for so he made to run but the magic knight knew his intention and stopped him on time.
"And where do you think you are heading to?" He asked him and raised his hand. "Light magic, second grade, holy prison!" A glowing metal cage appeared and caged the wicked man. "You are coming with me!" The magic knight said and flew away with the holy prison floating behind him.
From afar, Ember could not take his eyes off the magic knight. It seemed he had found a new aspiration.
"Magic knight? This is the power of a magic knight? If so, then it is so cool," he mumbled. "I will also become a magic knight!" He said with his fist clenched.
After standing there for a while, he suddenly remembered that his grandma was at home and it was getting late already, he needed to prepare dinner for them so he turned to leave but as soon as he took his first step, he fell down.
