Chapter 14 - World War Z (Part 7)

A/N: This chapter is fully a lore dump for the two's backstories, and how they met. if you don't care then skip it for the next chapter when they get to Jerusalem.

"Train to Busan?" Logan said while placing a six of hearts on a seven of clubs. Akane tapped away at her DS while cocking her head left and right lazily.

"Fun, I would like to save, Heh, Ma dong from a shitty death" she answered. "though maybe we should go with one not as deadly, so we can go more balls to the walls. Like Shaun of the dead, little monsters, that Cooties one, or maybe rec? clean up the apartment, then head out the sewer system to end the flick." Logan nodded as he placed a jack of spades over a queen of diamonds.

"Those are good ones, risky as those dead are pretty fast, but contained" Logan said. "I like Shaun for the comedy aspect, though his plan was shit and I just can't see myself helping him get to the pub. Killing killer kids is not a challenge in any aspect though an easy run through I suppose. Little monsters... I can't remember if those dead were a real threat or not."

"Slow and dumb, easy picking if we pick it," Akane said. Logan nodded and took his time to look over his game of solitaire. The couple were in a corner of the plane as they headed to Jerusalem and were being left alone. Gerry had actually taken charge as a co-polite while the doc just sat with the SEAL team in another corner. The movie was nearly done and while they were reaching the most likely moment of death for them, they weren't that scared of it. Sure the candy bar they were given gave them a free life, but that wasn't why they were unafraid. No, this would be the truest moment for them to be killed for the first time since coming here, and that was what they wanted from the start.

Nothing beat the rush of facing your death head on with everything you got, though for the two it was a little different. Logan still remembered his first time as his father and him were hunting a rogue grizzly that had attacked a few campsites in the area. They had to track it to his den and before they could plan how to get it out, it beat them to it by rushing the two. The thing must have been four or five hundred pounds and in moments barreled through the two, sending his father off to the side. He managed to roll out of the way in time to dodge the beast before coming up into a kneeling position.

It was then that he faced the massive muzzle of the bear head on as it glared down at him from twenty feet away. He remembered how it had a firm resolve in its eyes as it stared him down. How in that moment it would either be him or Logan that would have the chance to see the next sunrise. His blood pumped as he unslung his rifle while the bear snorted out a steamy breath in the cold day. He remembered him raising up to his full height as the bear rushed him, moving faster than anything that big should be capable of.

He felt the cool touch of the lacquered wooden grip of his gun as he took aim, the bear barely five feet away. When the crack of his shot pierced the air as the bear was inches away from lunging at him, teeth first, he felt the thrill envelope him fully. The shot was true and sent lead straight through the bear's chest, piercing its heart and sending it crashing right in front of Logan. The thump of his heart had him deaf as he gazed down at his hunt, his lips for the first time in his life cracking a genuine smile. It was then Logan found his passion in life as he found the thrill of the challenge.

The challenge of survival, the skill needed to win a fight, the risk of putting your life on the line for it all...it was everything he wanted. After that day he put everything he had into the distractions his father used to wear him out everyday. The CQC, SBT, hunting, etc. It all became his building blocks for his life to be able to achieve this thrill again. This of course led him down a path of underground fight clubs, vigilante justice for both sides of the law, and anything else that gave him a challenge of force or strategy.

Akane however, was something else entirely from her husband. Her parents were immigrants to America, coming to the land of the free for their slice of the dream promised so long ago. She was a first generation American, though the third born to her family. With an Ivy league elder brother and popular and pretty sister to cast a shadow over her growing up, the girl became the black sheep to her family. Her infant days were filled with neglect from her parents and emotional abuse from her siblings' snotty attitude.

This helped fuel her teen years of lashing out with goth attire, sneaking out, drugs, gang affiliations. You name something criminal and she would do it just to shine like her siblings. Though she still felt hollow as she spiraled further into the darker part of the world. It wasn't until she finally got caught that she found the spark she had been missing. She didn't fail the clean snatch and grab joy ride her friends pulled her into to, no her friend had been a dumb bitch and live streamed the fucking action.

The cops were at her parents door the next day with cuffs in hand, dragging her out for the neighborhood to see in broad daylight. Still, she wasn't afraid of the gossip and likely Juvie sentence she would get for her stunt. No, in that moment her eyes were on her parents as she wanted to see the rage on their faces. She wanted to see them humiliated for ignoring her, for letting her go down such a root. She wanted them to notice her for once in their fucking lives...yet she didn't get that sweet release as they didn't even waste barely a second to talk to the cops.

Before she was shoved in the back of the cruiser, her home's front door was shut and locked as her family just went on with their day. When she was sitting in lockup they never once came to see her. When her court date showed up they were no shows. For six months in Juvie not a single word was spoken to her from any of her family, until finally she was called to the visitor center. Yet the only ones who were there to see her weren't her parents, but her pricks of siblings looking disgusted to be there.

"This is what's best for our futures Akane, so don't drag your feet," her brother said, sliding a packet of paper at her on the table.

"Yeah, hurry up," her sister said, checking her phone. "I want to go shopping before the sales end." Akane's eyes looked at the form in front of her with raised brows.

"Military school?" she asked the air more than her siblings. The form was all written out and looked to only need her signature to finish it off before it could be sent off.

"Yes, your record is a stain on our family's pedigree and needs to be expunged," her brother said. "Luckily, one of my friends' fathers has an in with this academy they send waste like you to. They will clean your record and make me and sis ready for one of the top universities."

"Hurry up! my friends are telling me the sales are almost over!" her sister said while finally looking at Akane. Her expression was sinister as she gazed at her younger sister, somewhat amused as well as she tried to drive a knife into the girl's heart. "Mom and dad already sighed you away finally, now you can hopefully be trained into a proper bitch for some general or something." Her brother shook his head at her sister, the eldest not understanding the need to antagonize someone so beneath them.

"Ha," Akane lightly chuckled. "Ha, ha, ha" she laughed louder, earning a raised brow from her siblings. "HA HA HA" she guffawed as she threw her head back, earning the room full attention. The guard in the corner looked over in curiosity but looked away as Akane's laughter died down.

"Wow! did she finally crack" her sister said looking amused at Akane's pain.

"Crack? no, no, no, I am more of a weed kind of girl you glossed up cunt" Akane said looking at her sister with amusement clear in her voice. The attack wasn't really known for her as her sister scoffed at Akane's usual insult.

"Akane, just sign the papers so we can move on finally, I have a meeting with some colleges I need to get to" her brother said, sighing at the back and forth of these two. Akane looked at him and then the form before smiling and holding out a hand.

"Sure bro, you got a pen?" she asked. Her brother sighed in relief as he pulled out a rather nice pen and handed it over. Akane took it and examined the tool and nodded as he looked back to her siblings. "You know for so long, I was desperate to get our parents' attention. It's why I started breaking the law in the first place." As she spoke she uncapped the pen and looked at the quill design with a smile that didn't reach her eyes.

"Oh, fancy... anyway," she started while scribbling on the paper where her name should be, "to think that even now they still don't care an ounce about me. I'm sure it was my big brother's idea for you to even come here today, just so I don't get in your way." As she finished her writing she looked back up and slid the paper back to her brother. "I got to say you two really are just the most insufferable ass hats that I have to thank. After all," She said as her brother checked her signature.

'You really shouldn't give someone in lockup a weapon' was written out in perfect cursive where her name should be. "This little stunt has made me realize I don't give a fuck about their love anymore, and in fact can't wait to make them suffer." as she said those last words she spun the pen around and lunged for her brother's throat. The fear in his eyes did show until her hand was caught before she could kill the fuckwad of a family member. she growled out as she looked at the one who stopped her, and froze.

Piercing green eyes held her firm as he plucked the pen out of her hand. He was tall, fit, and classically handsome, everything she liked in a guy. He put the pen back in the cap with a single hand before keeping it as he never looked away from Akane.

"You would lose," he said and she blinked. "Killing them now, would see you in prison for life. Your parents would surely suffer, sure, but so do you."

"I want them to hurt," Akane said and the young man nodded.

"Beat them, sure, just don't kill them" he answered before taking her hand and giving it a kiss. "How much longer in here?" he asked. she blushed for the first time in her life at a boy but still answered confidently.

"Another six months, though likely nine if I beat the shit out of these too" Akane answered. He nodded as he let her hand go.

"I can wait, see you tomorrow" he said as he walked back to the adjacent table. He grabbed his bag and left, Akane watching him leave, her eyes taking in his toned ass. she purred at the sight before looking at her confused siblings. she shrugged and lunged again, her goal to ruin her sister's face, and crush her brother's balls. it was easy as the two hadn't fought a day in their lives. By the time the guard got to them she accomplished her goal, a smile adorning her lips as she thought about her visit tomorrow.

Yes, what Akane craved was the thrill of mayhem and chaos that life could bring. So she would do all she could to put herself in those situations, just to see what happened next.
